Using a switch is not practical......

You can't do it. Even if you did use a switch, everytime you switched from analog cable to over-the-air antenna and back you would have to re-do the channel search. How do I know this? I have a 42" Panasonic plasma HDTV with one antenna connector and I tried doing what you're trying to do.

My solution was to hook up the over-the-air antenna to the antenna connection and use a cable box for the analog signal. I use the video/audio output of the cable box into into one of the many video/audio inputs ( I believe I have seven of them) that my set has. That way I can easily switch between cable and antenna -although that means juggling remotes. Besides a cable box, you could use anything that can tune the analog cable signal such as a VCR or a DVD recorder.

Just a response to gkk's comment.

Not all TVs behave like your Panny. My Sharp keeps separate channel listings for both the Antenna and Cable connections. I also only have one coax input.

I have to go into the menu to switch from Cable to Antenna, but I don't need to re-scan.
