We are travelling to US for my Boyfriends brothers wedding at the end of August and although they have a wedding list there's nothing on it which is really a suitable gift ( most of it's crap to be honest). We would like to get them something personal and as we probably wont see them for a while as they are going to be living in the US, felt that the kettle etc they've asked for wasn't appropriate. It needs to be something which is easily packed, wont tip us over our luggage allowance and will survive the flight. Any ideas?

why not wait and find something when you get there. this way if it needs to be returned it won't be a problem.

Get them something from the list and maybe some personalised champagne glasses as you have limited space. You could get them a guest book for everyone to sign that is quite a personnel gift

You don't say where you live, but if you are in the UK, where beautiful wollen blankets are made, that would make a nice gift. Something under which they could both snuggle.

Though you might think there gifts are "CRAP" they don't. I am getting married in 2 weeks and the things we registered for might appear as "CRAP" to others, but they are things we will need to start our new home.
