Have you tried your community centre. There may be some information in the community news letter. If you contact them, they may be able to point you in the right direction. There should be flag football for the younger kids. I don't know where you live, but may be there might be a local magazine that has all the coming events and registrations.

Hello ' longintheshower ' (that 's quite a handle !) :
Personally, that 's quite a young age to find any organized leagues.
Watch some NFL games " together" to let him see how the game is played at home in front of your T.V.
Buy a smaller sized football and play some catch with him. He 'll get to know how to throw and catch.
I learned the game of 'touch football' on an asphalt road in my neighbourhood. We had about 7 young boys in our 'hood. 'Touch Football' has no tackling (thank God, on asphalt !) but, we could make up passing and running plays.
Quite often, 'hood fathers would join in the game and teach us football plays. I always remembered the 'Statue of Liberty' play !
You seem very thoughtful about your young son ! SUPER !
Best of luck to you.

Can't help I'm afraid but just wanted to give a bit of advice.
After watching a documentary on BBC this evening, it's wise to get any adults checked out that run clubs or activites with kids. There are only a few professions have to legally check their employees so it's wise to do your own checks.
Might be worth checking for groups with your local council.

I think you need to sit down as a father and ask your son what kinds of sports and groups he like, and not what dad likes. If it is something that you want him to do and he doesnt like it he will not be interested. You have to let him do things that he wants to do, whether you like it or not let him chose the sports and groups he wants to do, it will be more rewarding for the both of you. Whatever he chooses to play be their in every way to support him, you be his biggest cheerleader, and let him know that you are proud of him

Find out what kinds of things HE likes, and get him involved. Or expose him to everything, even music, theater, etc. See what he likes. Get him involved in whatever he shows interest in. Good luck.
