Seems more acceptable for woman to date older man but not man to date older woman

Because the older man-younger woman relationship has been around longer. Arranged marriages usually involved older men who were established and financially well off.
Usually, the younger man-older woman relationship was considered to be the result of an unfaithful wife who had married and older man who couldn't keep her happy, to put it delicately. So she would begin a relationship with a younger houseguest, maybe a relative of her husband. Then the whispers would start.

I find this question to be very interesting. I find myself asking the same question to myself many times. I know someone who dated a girl...the girl dumped him but they remained friends. Today he's considered her child's grandpa because he ended up with her mom and this was like over 30 yrs ago. they are still happy together...all of them :-) More I wonder why doesn't it seem right if it was vice verse. I think it's because of society itself. People choose to see older men with younger women vs vice verse just as people choose to see skinny models in ads and on bill boards vs big women. This is my opinion :-) OK then, I'm out! l8tr :-)

How much older are we talking about? 10 years either way is usually good. Unless the guy is 10 and the woman is 20. But if the woman is 40and the guy 30, not a problem.

It seems like everything is acceptable these days. I've known lots of people where the guy was younger then the women.

Women should not date men younger than them because it is not a right couple, it is wrong, some of them may be happy not all, anyways when they do that it means that the woman would be more mature and would have to lead the path.It is not supposed to be this way, its the men who should be leading the path not the women.

because society wants women for breeding. to men breedable mean "do"-able. old women are supposed to be barren, unwantable. Young women are supposed to be snatched up as soon as they hit puberty and start looking feminine. men are supposed to be virile at all ages, in fact, they are supposed to be emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially superior when they are older.
old men offer money, young women offer bodies, it makes me sick how it works.
