my ex was also a drug addict and i cut him off from my kids to try and give them a better life. i know the day will come when they will want to meet their bio dad and yes i will be upset but i will also understand it is natural. im sure ur mom will understand just let her know that its nothing with her its just that u want to know who he is. its perfectly normal to want to meet your bio parents. but understand too that he is an addict. be careful in starting a relationship with him. never give him money or access to ur belongings. i know from experience. an addict doesnt care if he's stealing from his family just that he's getting his fix. start slowly. talk to your mom first bring it up slowly. talk about u being interested in your bio dad and sister and ask questions about hthem. that will show u r wanting to meet them and maybe she will help you. if she does get upset dont get discouraged she will get over it and understand. as far as her and ur sisters mom not getting along, that has nothing to do with u and ur sister. they r adults and should be able to see thru their differences enough to allow u guys to have a relationship. hope this advice helps u.

I get the desire to meet the sister that is your age, but why on earth would you want one single thing to do with a drugged-out Dad? You are not going to get anything but negativity from that relationship, so don't even go there. I would just straight out ask your Mom if you could meet your sister. Be up front and honest about it. And just to give you a word of caution: I don't think your Mom would let you meet your Dad, even if you asked.

How old are you? I would just talk to my mom about it. Just because your mom doesn't get along with your sisters mom doesn't mean that needs to have anything to do with you. Tell your mom that this is important to you and that you want to meet them to make your own decisions and choices whether or not these people should be in your life. Stay calm and collective and DO NOT get upset no matter what her answer is. You will get farther by walking away if she says no and coming back another day and asking did you think about it.

When I searched for my bio mother, my mom was very upset. I assured her that I wasn't looking for someone to take her place but it was just that a part of me was missing and I felt the need to know where I came from. I did meet my bio-family and have always considered them to be friends. I think of them as an extended family-- much like a mother in law or father in law would be. They have become a part of my life, but it took a while for my (adoptive) mom to realize that I would always think of her and my dad as my "real" parents.

One other thing to consider though, is that you need to prepare yourself. Just because you want to meet him doesn't mean that he wants to meet you. And if you do meet, keep in mind that he might not be the person you were hoping he would be.

Good luck.

you can want to meet them, but its likely she wont be happy till you are older, and maybe by then your dad will be clean!
