find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

First of all tell your family you plan to get into shape...if you say diet your parents might be afraid you'll do something stupid, and we both know you won't. Center your changes around being more active and supplement that activity with better eating choices. Doing it the other way around will only give you an ugly food obsession and this is not the root of weight loss, activity is.

If you run a marathon every day, you can eat five pizzas a day...but you probably don't do either so we just need to make sure your activity level matches your fuel (food) intake.

Here's the advice:

Be active...if it's less than 5 miles away WALK.

No fast food. No soda. No "saving calories" like a diet coke doesn't "save" you 150 calories so you can have 150 calories of cake later on...because that 150 calorie can of coke has NO fat...the cake can be upwards of 40% fat.

At least 30min of random exercize per day...even cleaning your room is exercize...

As much as possible, substitute any food you don't like with fruit or vegetables...if your mom makes meatloaf, and you HATE meatloaf...have a bigger salad instead, or if there's chocolate cake for dessert, have as much watermelon as you want...etc.

Slow and steady wins the race, and before you know it you'll need a smaller bikini! Ignore "quick fix" type diets, they will only deprive you and make you miserable.

1. Do NOT over eat or binge. 2. Do NOT starve yourself. Both are unhealthy and a lot of times the second leads to the first...an ugly cycle. Don't deprive yourself or you will obsess and be miserable.

Good luck...and stay healthy.

It's good to drink alot of water, low calorie drinks occasionally or flavored water if you want taste. Eat vegetables and fruits. You can still incorporate what you usually eat, the key is to exercise and burn more calories than you consume with cardio workouts 3-4 times a week. And you can eat fast-food once a week so you won't give your body the feeling of denying its cravings. Just make sure you burn it off and use it as energy.
