you have no legal worries, it is for the garage to appraise the car properly. If they miss the fault then unfortunatley for them it is their problem. With regards to your other answers you are protected under the trade description act so your new car should be free from any problems.

If the fault is obvious then they should have picked it up and adjusted the value to suit. Did they drive it, or even start the engine? If not then they really should have. They are "experts", not you. The only exception would be if the fault was intermittent or something that only appeared at M'way speeds, when you would be expected to mention it. Generally trade-ins are as seen and they will probably pass it on to the auctions or the dealer network asap

The garage are professionals. If they detect it they will know its true cost to repair. They might use a second hand part and workshop hours that would otherwise be idle. They will look for really expensive jobs - engine, gearbox, etc. Anything else they can sort for relatively little money.

As others have said - do not misrepresent.

Usually it's assumed that something is wrong with the car when you're trading it in. Don't lie, but if they don't ask your car, was traded in, as in condition, broken door handle, missing trunk lid, doesn't matter.

Once the paper's are signed they have no recourse, unless you lied specifically, like saying the transmission is fine when the car won't shift out of first, etc.

If they dont check it and the deal has been signed youll have no comeback as its impossible to prove the problem started before the trade in. Its their responsibility to check, and theyll probably either fix the fault themselves for pennies or slap it straight through an auction.

I would not loose any sleep over it, garages are only too keen to fleece the motorist. Unless he has specifically asked the question you are in the clear as far as I am concerned. "Buyer be ware" .

if it was like that since youve bought it, then you have a lemon. we had a new car the would randomely stall and not start up again so we traded it in for a new car. when i say you have a lemon, i ment the lemon law.

Have you ever heard the old saying "Buyer Beware"?

Same goes for the one you are buying, check it out well, whatever faults it comes with are yours to fix.

Say nothing you are not obliged to tell them unless thry ask so if they dont ask dont say. If the garage notices it they will fix it for a fraction of the price you were quoted.
