Pitbulls scare me!! A house down the street from me has agressive pit bulls that get out of the yard a lot. They go running up and down the street and one time they tried attacking my little sister's friend!

But my nextdoor neighbor used to have two that were VERY nice. They would be outside without a leash (I know they shouldn't be, but the neighbor was watching them) and would come over and greet my family when we got home from school most days.

I've taught obedience for 30+ years.

Breeds don't scare me. That being said, obviously larger dogs can cause more damage than smaller dogs.

What REALLY scares me is the first night of beginner classes. A lot of strange dogs in a crazy environment AND you have absolutely NO idea what you are dealing with. The dog could be a gentle as can be, or the dog could be an absolute nut case. THEN you get to go around and start meeting these dogs and helping the owners try to train them.

I haven't been bit yet, but I think that I read dogs extremely well and that saves me.

There is no breed in particular that scares me.

What scares me are the types of owners that walk their dogs. You've seen this, they walk their dog with no leash and let it go rushing up to every person and dog it meets or there are the owners, who are being pulled down the street by a dog that is barking and growling at every moving thing. Breed has nothing to do with it because I have seen small dogs that are just out of control.

It is all about the owner and whether he/she can handle the dog they own.

ETA: I own German Shepherds and many people are afraid of this breed and with good reason because some people just have no idea how to train and socialize their dogs which make them dangerous, but mine on or off lead know how to behave so the only worry I have when walking them is another dog regardless of breed trying to attack my dogs.

I have always owned big dogs. Honestly their is no breed of dog that scares me. Usually if a dog is off leash its because the owner feels confident that the dog is ok with strangers and other dogs. Any unsocialized dog that looks like he's going to bite me scares. Luckily that has never happened to me. Before my dog or I approach any dog I always try to read the dogs body language and ask the owner if its ok.

The dogs that worry me the most are the ones that don't bark.

The quiet ones always sort of creep me out because if an attack comes, they aren't going to warn you. It's going to be quick and it's going to be serious.

Because of this, the dogs that scare me the most are pit bulls, chow chows, and dobermans. Those are the three dogs that always creep me out because all they do is stare at you. They just stare at you with those dead, creepy eyes and that's what makes me the most nervous. It's like watching at Michael Myers staring at the wall at the start of Halloween.

In particular, try going to a dog pound sometime and walk past all the pit bull cages. All the other dogs in the shelter tend to go crazy and bark at yap at you. But the pit bulls will all just sit there and silently stare at you. It's creepy. They never bark!

I love all dogs! Honestly, I do! I'm never really scared of dogs even when they are off their leashes, unless they show some hostility toward me. Most dogs are not aggressive unless they have a reason like they were trained to be that way or they are protecting their babies. Dogs know when people are intending to hurt them and that's when they show their teeth and get mean. No matter what breed it is, when they do that, I run!

No dog scars me, not even an aggressive one. If I were to get attacked I would kill it, I love dogs, but no dog should be off lead and able to attack. I always carry a knife for reasons like this, so I am prepared to protect myself it it came down to it.
Dogs that worry me, are small dogs, though they have a small mouth and are less likely to do a lot of damage, they always seem to be the ones that snap all the time, and that shouldn't be aloud just because they are little.

None of them really scare me.

I get along exceptionally well with all dogs. The breed that frightens me is the Pitt Bulls. Their aggression is unpredictable, especially the ones that have fighting in their blood lines.

Just like our teenagers reach a certain age they seem to rebel & have an about face attitude. So do dogs. They grow up into adults and see the world through completely different eyes.

This change affects many breeds & not just the Pitt Bull. I have seen Poodles all of a sudden become aggressive. No apparent reason, they just grew up & have learned that they can or want be doninate. The Dalmation is another one, the little Cocker Spaniel, I mean dogs have had their genetic all tore up & any predicitablility of temperament is thrown out the window.

People should be cautious of any dog they don't know, cause that wagging tail may mean more than you think it means.

I'm not scared of dogs. i have been attacked by many dogs big and small. the #1 thing most people do wrong is run away from a dog off a lead. that just makes them chase you an could get you hurt even more. the only time i would really be afraid of a dog is if its a wolf or a coyote.

I adore dogs - pretty much all animals in fact. But, I must admit when I see a pit bull off lead it makes me a little nervous. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not one of those anti-pit people. I know pits that belong to friends and I love and trust them. I just get a little tense seeing them loose! I try very hard not to feel that way but sometimes I just can't help it.
