It used to be one of the toughest neighborhoods in NYC. Now it's all upscale professionals.

Not at all. In fact, its becoming one of the most trendy Neighborhoods in NYC. 10th and 11th Avenues are still a bit sketchy (especially at night) from 50th street south, but 8th and 9th Aves from 42nd street all the way up to 60th street are awesome! I have lived there for four years now and I would recommend the neighborhood to anyone looking to move into the city. 9th ave in particular is known for having wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques - with new stores popping up everyday. And 56th street is practically at Columbus Circle which is the gateway to the upper west and one of the nicest areas in the city. I would highly recommend Hell's Kitchen :)

No, not a rough neighborhood. I wouldn't exactly call it trendy, though. It's been sort of eaten by the Theater District, it's mostly restaurants and office buildings. I have a good friend who lives on 57th, she likes her neighborhood fine.

I know lots of night clubs are in that area. I am not sure how rough it gets down there at night. It seems like all kinds of night club crowds till 4 a.m.
