In the begaining of this immigration process one year ago, I sent all required documentation as needed,} all along doing every step just as instructed, paying all the fees and all the hidden ones as well, 3 months after sending it in they replyed that everything was ok and the sent me a approval notice that my wife could be inline for her visa appointment and this was good news, they realize and have stated on their documents that international mail is not a dependable thing and for unimportant things a faxed item would do fine, that was nice of them, now 10 days before the one year mark they send me a letter saying they must have certifyed and translated copys of her birth certifacate and our marriage documents and a copy from the pages of her passport because they are missing,, she is mexican and has no passport, anyway they say that they must have it before the one year mark of us starting the process or all documents will expire and we must start the immigration process over again.

I can appreciate the fact that you are doing this the legal way, and I am sorry that this has happened, I hope that you and your wife are reunited soon. But this is a perfect example of why we have this immigration problem. Alot of immigrants are probably going through the same thing, so they skip the due process and cross the border illegally. Nothing to do with paperwork is ever perfect we are all only human.

The system doesn't work, it is broken. It won't do you any good to try to explain it to Yahoo answers. I waited for what will be a year in August of 2007 for my husband to come home and now I get a packet in the mail from the Consulate that says I have to fill out all the paperwork again because a year has passed. It is not my fault that they are understaffed and overwhelmed with applications and raking in the dollars but not employing more workers to keep up with the backlog. Instead, I, an AMERICAN CITIZEN BY BIRTH, have to redo all this stupid paperwork and repay all these stupid fees just to bring my husband home to his wife and 5 children. The system is broken and someone needs to fix it!!!

Send if FedEX.

You should really have gotten her a passport when you started the process, I don't know how you're going to get one so quickly.

Bureacracy sucks, I'm not surprised that they first told you they had everything they needed, then sprung something else on you later. Really, every dealing with the government here is like that, and if you work for a big corporation, you get an extra helping of Bureaucratic BS from them, too.

All I can say is keep trying.

First off, I don't see a question.

Secondly, there is NO QUESTION that our immigration processes need overhauling. Adding 20 million people who've been breaking the laws is not the answer. It's unfortunate that the process is so arduous. I think congress and the white house should be spending their time and money overhauling that system and securing the borders instead of trying to appease big business interests and the hispanic lobby.

While the US immagration system has its flaws. The problem is not having a exact list of all required documents. You can usuallly judge a counrty by the amount of people trying to get in versus the amount of people trying to leave.

Like most bureaucratic processes it needs to be revamped. I don't think anyone has every argued to the contrary. But will it be made better by adding millions more applications to the mix?

I am sorry that this has been your experience and I hope the system gets better but amnesty is not going to magically fix the system and that is what the argument centers around.

our immigration system doesn't work because the illegals are flooding the system. My uncle is in the same situation and he has been trying to come here for about 10 years and my family are all legal naturalized citizens who were legal immigrants and I was born here. My aunt (his wife) is trying to receive her citizenship but has not received her letter for about 7 years.

Yes there is a huge problem with the system but this new bill is going to make it A LOT worse.

always only about the hispanics and mexicans who violate the law.....i know 100-300 who came here legal and had no problems as you state if all was in order on their documents. my best friend came here from philippines......am very sure she has 12 million who want to come here illegal and not be deported, but given only a small fine, they would pay me ten times that to come here like the one's who broke the law to come here.
