My son is 18 months olds and for the last 7 weeks he has been extreamly constipated. He has seen the Dr. more than once, and been to the hospital. I have tried Brown sugar and water, lansoly jelly, and lactulose. I have increased his fiber intake and am giving him as much water as he will drink. I am really worried. He has a movement everyday, but it is very hard. He has torn his bum and not it beeds if he is not having a looes movement.
I don't know what to do please help. Any advice would be a great help.

My kids were the same way and were on a RX called Miralax for a long time, BUT it caused a lot of stomach pain like a laxative does, we recently started using Benefiber, we buy it at Wal-Mart and it works much better than Miralax, the stool is actually softer and it causes no stomach pain and dissolves much better and cannot be tasted even in water. My oldest takes it once a day and my youngest needs it twice a day, I would try that and don't miss a dose or they back up again.

My niece had a problem called incapresis (not sure of the spelling). (She was able to go, but it was in small amounts. It turns out there was a blockage of feces up in her intestines that was only allowing a certain amount by.)

Once a doctor finally diagnosed her correctly, we were able to get her help. It took two times of using an enema (as instructed by the doctor). Then after that she was given mineral oil mixed in with a drink once per day for several months. Once the initial blockage came out (due to the enema) and she was regulated (due to the mineral oil), she has never had another problem.

I don' t know if this is what is going on with your son, but it may be worth looking into. Good luck - I hope you get it resolved soon. I know how bad it makes you feel to not know how to help your little one get better.

My daughter was the same way since birth. I tried everything you can think of and then one day this lady on yahoo answers told me to ask my doctor about giving her MIRALAX. Well I did, I talked to my doctor and he prescribed it for her and she's never had a problem since. It worked right away. Like your son, my daughter would bleed from her bottom and cry. She would hold it in for days because it hurt her so bad, She hasn't a problem since. They sell it over the counter in a purple and white bottle and it's a white powder substance. The oage says it's for adults but I use half of the dosage which my doctor told me to do and I put it in juice or water and that's it.

Ask his doctor about an enema. I nannied a child that had severe constipation and hers got so bad that her mom had to give her enema's. See if he will eat grapes for you or raisin's. Try to get him to run and Climb at the park. I have been told " A body in motion stays in motion". Keep in contact with his Doctor about this problem. Try not to freak out about this ( at least not in front of him).

They should be able to give him a prescription stool softener. If not go to the local drug store and ask the pharmacist. Quit using those remedy's that old aunt Sally suggested.

what i done when my kids were constipated was this get a thermonater the oral kind and barely insert the tip of it in the rectum and move it around slightly"what this does is it gets the muscles in the butt moving"and helps to release the poop. You may not believe it will work, but i have 5 kids and it has worked with all of them.
