It depends on what state you are living in because age of consent laws are not federal but rather vary by state. Some states even have laws that mandate an age difference that is acceptable, such as if the difference is less than five years it's legal, or if the older partner is younger than 21 it's legal.
The link I've provided give some basic guidelines (scroll down to the US section), but the safest thing to do would be to consult your states age of consent laws. These should be available on the states WEB site. If you do a Google search for "(your state here) age of consent laws" you should find something.

If there is no sex, there is no problem.
This is the age when sex drives are in high gear, however.
The USA has become very conservative and the "age of consent" is high. The lowest is 16 in some states. Some have it at 18.
If there is sex with a person under this age, it is "statutory rape". The older one will be jailed. The severity is less if the older person is less than 4 years age difference from the younger.
So an 18 year old with a 15 year old is less severe than a 30 year old with a 15 year old. They are both illegal.
Right now in that enlightened state of Georgia, there is an 18 year old boy who is in jail for 10 years for having oral sex with a 15 year old girl (she initiated)
Be careful.

He cant be that serious if he is ok dating a 15 year old. Or he is also too immature to know why this is a bad idea. Being SERIOUS is about commitment, long term plans and such. At 15 you are not old enough to know yourself much less what you are going to be like or want even in 2 or 3 years from then. And no matter what has happened to people or not it legally is statutory rape even if she is consenting.

If they have sex, it is illegal. that is because a 15-year old is not mature enough to make a good decision about having sex with an adult. It is statutory rape, and he would go to jail, and be on the National Sex Offender's list. If I had an under-age daughter and an adult slept with her, his butt would be in jail. Your friends' parents obviously do not know that their little girl is sleeping with an adult man.
15 and 16 year olds are easily taken in to the wonders (and money) that an adult has. They do not know what a real relationship is. These girls need some counseling soon! And you do, too if you are supporting this behavior.
Hiding this from their parents is a very bad thing to do!!!!!

Barring the fact that I wouldn't advise those relationships, it's not illegal until sex acts take place. Then it crosses into statuatory rape. Even then, in some states, 15 is actually past the age of consent so you'd have to check in your specific location. Better yet, if they just keep their clothes on, nothing illegal to worry about.

a 15 year old can see an 18 year old. The problem is that sex between them is illegal in most places because she is still a minor.

the law would be not to date minors if your 18 or over, but i dated an 18 year old when i was 14 and nuthin happend to us and nothing will unless they are havin sex and sum1 finds out and tells the cops on them but even then her parents and her would have to testify against him to have anything done so i think they should be fine and its only a 3 year diff so it shouldnt hurt nuthin.
as long as he is a good guy like u say.

18 and 15 is the same as 20 and 16, let the law find out and see what happens.
the law can press charges on you just as easy as a parent can.
try to see if bubba cares about your age when your locked up with him.

Depends on what state you are in.
Just make sure they don't video ANYTHING - can be used as evidence & can put the dude in jail, even if it was consensual. Seriously.
Also- a girls parents can cause a problem if they know, if they disapprove they can call the cops & have him arrested.
Personally & genetically I don't think there's anything wrong with the age matches you described, but the law and parents say otherwise.
They just need to be extra careful & quiet!
