I'm all for it! As far as I'm concerned, they should make the smokers stay in their own enclosed room and they should inhale each others smoke.

Well, as a former bartender and smoker I can see all sides of this one. However I think that any time you have the government regulating what you can do with/ in your private property/business you have a big problem. Smoking is gross and unhealthy, but it IS LEGAL.
First, why not let the market regulate whether or not smoking or non smoking bars exist. If you don't like smoke -don't patronize an establishment. Vice versa for smokers.....if enough people vote with their wallets owners will change one way or the other.
Secondly, I do have a problem with people saying that they have a "right" to a smoke free environment. Fine, stay home,or go some place that is non-smoking. Same goes for you smokers. But don't try to tell me how to run my business.
That is, unless you are paying the bills.

I'm a smoker and a drinker. And, I smoke triple the amount when I'm drinking! Yet, I still think smoking indoors is a little gross. I smoke outside at home. I don't really care if I'm indoors and someone is smoking. I just know it is more pleasant not to. If we are going to outlaw it because it is unpleasant than we should outlaw farting as well. I just don't like the movement to ban smoking outside in public places... That is a little ridiculous! You are outside!!! But, I mean how much can you really complain about smoking in a bar. I understand the basis of this edict is based on the side affects of second hand smoke... But, seriously... You aren't exactly at a gym or a health spa. You are at a bar!!! You are drinking!!! Which I'm told can lead to some health problems and also you are likely eating greasy bar food. I mean seriously, pick up your yoga mat and go drink your cranberery juice spritzer somewhere else if an unhealthy lifestyle offends you.

I moved from a place where smoking was common everywhere to CA which has smoking bans. It was a bit weird at first, but the bars and restaurants are very accommodating by having smoking patios or letting you out and back in after a smoke. Although I smoke, it's refreshing to not have other's smoke in my face and to go outside and get some fresh air (heh) and talk to fellow smokers. I've met some cool people that way. It only took me about a month to get used to it. It seems like a pain now, but it's actually kind of nice for everyone.

I agree with you. First off, I am not a smoker. Even though I'm not though, at first I felt it was infringing on people's rights. But, you are right; non smoker's have rights also! It seems to be working out good, the not smoking in the bars. It's only bad in the winter for the smoker's. A lot of people, thank God have been able to successfully quit! :) So happy for them!

The state wide one wont take effect till october. in Minnesota. Some counties have it and have lost some buissness or closed.
I went to a party in one of the countys who has the policy now and did not mind it . The club we were at just made an area outside the bar for that. That whole night I maybe had 3. That club is popular enough so I don't think it will be effected to much.
In the town/ area I live in there area bunch of colleges and when classes are on the bars downtown are packed. I am guessing they will also go to an area outside to smoke.
Like one of my friends said one day the only legal place to smoke will be in your own home. Lets hope it come to that extreem.

It should be like this:
Most drinkers are smokers and therefore all bars should have the right to choose whether or not they are smoke-free
But if the bar is also a restaurant, I think it should have to be smoke-free. I'm a smoker and I think it's rude and disgusting to have someone smoke while you eat. It's just icky and besides most people who are eating are not also smoking.
Majority rules. It's only fair.

I used to live in NY when they allowed smoking indoors and then when the ban took effect. I smoked then, and it really pissed me off that I could no longer smoke inside, especially in the winter! But eventually I got used to it and so did everyone else. I have moved to NC now and have officially quit smoking. It will be a year in August since I have had one. In NC you can still smoke indoors. Since I used to smoke and it was the hardest thing ever to quit, I absolutely hate having to sit in it at bars. I have to shower when I come home to get the stink off of me. I finally move to a state where I can enjoy having a cigarette indoors and I can't even enjoy it. So now I have to say that I actually miss that ban that I once hated.

No. What our lawmakers could communicate approximately is the liquor being served and fed on interior the bars and pubs. except Ive been out of the loop, has every physique ever heard of smoking a cigarette, getting in the back of the wheel, then inflicting an twist of destiny cuz they fed on too a lot nicotine? Our lawmakers are slowly making those united states of america right into a decrease than loose society! the only ones which will consider such an assinine concept are people who're ignorant to our freedoms and welcome our lawmakers to bypass in spite of regulation they take a seat around and think of to come again up with. shall we hardship extra approximately gun administration and under the impression of alcohol utilising and extra beneficial taxes and our homeless and well being care insurance and ..........the checklist is countless.

#1 My rights have not been infringed, around here at least I
know of only 1 drinking establishment where you can't smoke.
They just had too close up shop! Now if its a Bar that serves food as well, I can understand it.(not that much of a hard-@ss)
HOT TIP if they don't want me to smoke in their bar, no biggy,
I'll just haul my happy-*** right on down the road and spend my money elsewhere........That is a large part of what is wrong with this country today, everyone wanting to run everyone else's flippin' life. When in actuality they need to get one of their own! Sorry D, we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one! The real question here is , "Does a non-smoker have the right to tell a business man how to run his or her "business?"

These bans are stoo-pid; stupid; and stoo-pid. A bar is a place to have a drink and a smoke and a pub is a place to have a pitcher and a smoke. I don't smoke, but figure non-smokers who object should be banned from all bars and pubs worldwide. It should be up to the owner to decide if his/her establishment will be smoking or non-smoking and then customers can buy from either and we will see which is more profitable.
