There are too many problems here to mention, but I will touch on a couple.
A man can not be married to another man and a woman cannot be married to another woman. They may have a union, but it cannot be a marriage. Marriage is the joining together of a man and woman, a husband and wife. This is not an opinion, it is a fact of the English language and the social history of marriage since time has been recorded. Have a same-sex marriage would be like an Asian kid wanting a scholarship from the United ***** College Fund. All the UNCF would have to do is redefine "black", "*****", and "African", and the Asian kid would not be discriminated against. We cannot redefine a word based on a whim. We can make a new word, like "civil union", in order to fill the gap, but we cannot call something a marriage that contradicts the definition and nature of marriage.
Also, the government has no right to regulate marriage, except on a contractual basis. Basically, what a marriage license, or any license for that matter, is is the government taking away a civil liberty and selling it back to the people. In my humble opinion, there should be two types of unions: religious marriage, regulated by the officiating religious institution, and civil unions, regulated by the officiating governmental institution.

I love the way some claim that matrimony is 'holy'. Not so holy that the divorce rate for first timers hovers around 50%.
And they also fail to recognize that without that piece of paper called a marriage license, that 'marriage' does not exist in the eyes of the law.

Yes, all marriages in America are civil marriages, a religious marriage is not required by law.
Therefore, gay marriage should be allowed. It doesn't hurt anybody.

I say we ban all marriages and call them all civil unions and outlaw everyone from getting married so that way we can reverse discriminate against people.

Marriage has been a civil issue for hundreds of years, between a man and a woman. Even though it is a civil issue it still has its roots in the marriage institution set forth by God in the garden of Eden.
For hundreds of years, the definition of marriage (one woman to one man) has remained the same. Now, due to "political correctness" we are force to accept a change to allow the unnatural union of a man to a man or a woman to a woman?
You can "force" all the civil laws to change if you want, I will never support it and neither will God.

marriage is a civil union and religion doesn't have anything to do with it, there's a separation of church from state

correct. Churches should be allowed to "marry" whomever they please.
However, government should give equal rights to any two consenting adults, and grant a marriage license regardless of gender.

Ever hear the words: Holy Matrimony?
Personally I don't care and think it will only jam up our courts with even more divorces than there already are.
