"Still other stories are based more solidly in fact: The patriarch of one old New Orleans family bought her a house when, by means of her powerful "gris-gris" (magic) and considerable influence, she succeeded in having his son acquitted of charges that he had "wronged" a young woman. She then cast a spell to make the same young man repent, fall in love and marry the women. If someone Marie Laveau wanted acquitted went to the gallows, the governor would pardon him before the trapdoor was sprung. Once at a double hanging, when no pardon was forthcoming, the blue sky clouded over with thunder and lightning and both of the ropes broke. (This really happened.)" If the Bible is taken as fact, why not stories like this as well?

For the record, Marie Laveau was a devout Catholic, attending mass every Sunday at St. Louis Cathedral. She also counseled prisoners at the Parish prison with the priest from St. Louis Cathedral regulary. She was know for her charity with regard to those falsely imprisoned. She was buried, with the permission on the Catholic Church, in a Catholic cemetary. Powers from the devil you say??? Seems to contradict the facts a little bit.
