What specifically attracted you in the beginning? And what has kept you committed for the "long haul"?

What attracted me to Zen Buddhism was a metaphor: If you meet the Buddha, kill the Buddha. If you meet the Father, kill the Father. If you meet the Teacher, kill the Teacher." In plainer speaking, when you meet the teachings of authority, question it. Test it. Kill it if it's wrong. Buddhism demands that a person test everything against his or her own experience.
What keeps me for the long haul is that its goals and beliefs are my own, even before I met with it. It's a clearer way of understanding reality and makes so much sense to me.

The connection to nature and all other living things.
All of it.. the connection, the love, the kindness, the compassion, the learning.. the entire journey is amazing.

im agnostic.
if u want to consider it a religion i dont care, i dont consider it a religion. i consider it a label.
i grew up in a christian school, 12 years of it. i read the bible, found some flaws, found some lies, and stopped believing it.
i will still read it for various reasons.

Acceptance, I don't have to change who I am to be a part of it. And I've stayed with it because it allows me to be who I am, to connect deeper with my heritage and discover more about myself.
