Knowing evolution happened doesn't make you an evolutionist any more than being aware that chemical reactions take place makes you a chemist. Or knowing that there is a such thing as physics makes you a physicist. Or knowing that volcanoes erupt makes you a vulcanologist. Or knowing that some scientists dig up artifacts makes you an archaeologist. The list continues. I've read enough to know evolution happened, but I'm certainly not an "evolutionist"! /////////////////Somebody needs to inform that Bobby J. answerer, a few above me, that there IS in fact a lot of evidence for evolution, and refer him to the source below as merely one example.

I'm proud to be an evolutionist. And a gravitationalist. And a realist. Anything but a fundamentalist is fine with me.

The problem is the word "theory."
Gravity is no longer a mere theory.
It has been scientifically proven through
scientific testing resulting in consistent
and predictable results.

Evolution, on the other hand, has no such scientific proof.
So you may call yourself an evolutionist if you want, but it's really just wishful thinking on your part that your own self-imposed label is actually accurate.

When you're ready to come back down to Earth, you can be a gravitationalist.

You are asking a lot from a group of people who barely know what a theory is. They don't know the difference between belief in something from faith, and accepting science.

Yeah, but are you a saltationist or a gradualist?

I don't think these temporary labels are a big deal. They don't define the core of your being - they simply describe your take on various specifics.

You know that old joke that ends '.. but I shag ONE sheep!'?

Label are convenient sometimes.

Theists seem to really need labels, both for themselves and for others. So even if you don't claim to subscribe to a certain philosophy or belief system, they'll generally just go ahead and assign you one (and even redefine it if necessary) based on their assumptions.

All labels are just that... labels, they shouldn't disturb you unless you let them or someone's using them to cause you harm and suffering. What's silly is jumping on your bed when it's an old-fashioned one w/ wood slats.

It gets even funnier in mathematics, where the word 'theory' gets yet another definition. I guess I'm a 'group theorist.'

They create them as a means of insult. Non-believer, Un-believers, Pagans, Heathens and Devil worshippers all fall into this same catagory. I embrace the labels they throw at us!
Witch...is my favorite! ; )

Not to mention a "Germ-theory-of-diseaseist" because you think that Viral infections cause illness.
