I was 290lbs when I got pregnant... obviously I was very overweight, I was concerned about my my pregnancy but everything turned out fine and the baby was fine. I actually began losing weight in the first month of my pregnancy, I ended up weighing 285lbs by the time I gave birth so I had lost weight. Anyway, since giving birth 5 weeks ago, I have lost 45 lbs, most came off in the first 2 weeks after birth. I now weigh 240lbs. I'm NOT doing anything to try to lose weight, so I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else and is their an explanation?

most women experience a change in their metabolic rate as a result of child bearing. you seem to have lucked out in that your metabolism sped up, mine slowed down, took me forever to drop the weight I'd gained in pregnancy.

My guess is that while you were pregnant, you were careful about what you ate. That right there would account for the fact you lost weight personally while having a growing child inside you. And once you have the baby, you lose more weight naturally because your fluid volume goes down, your uterus returns to its shape. Plus, if you're breastfeeding at all, you're a human milk factory 24/7. If you're still carefully watching what you're eating, this would probably account for a lot of it. There's also the fact that pregnancy changes your hormone balance. For you, the change may have shifted everything in a good way and your metabolism is higher. Yeah for you!

I lost 13 pounds in the first 3 months of my pregnancy. It wasn't from morning sickness, I actually ate the same and indulged on french toast every Friday with a friend, she was gaining I was losing!! I gained a total of 23 pounds lost all but 5 pounds and then gained 30 due to onset of Hypothyroid. :-(

I know breastfeeding helps getting the weight off, you burn more calories during breastfeeding. Have you noticed more energy or insomnia, possible thyroid change? I would check with your doctor, although I wouldn't argue that's must feel great to loose and not to gain!

By the way congratulation!

You should go to your doctor for a checkup. The first thing that comes to mind is diabetes, which causes unexplained weight loss. Or, on the positive side - maybe you are just so focused and busy with the baby that you are not eating as much and moving around more.

I lost weight rapidly after birth as well. I was in my pre-prego jeans in less than a week. I was breastfeeding my baby and that really helped. Also, I think that the hormones are still out of wack & that helps too.

Congrats on the weight loss! Enjoy your baby!

congrats I only lost 20 lbs. I wouldn't be worried if I lost that much weight I would be hoping to lose more.

Yes!!!! I nursed my son, but was so tired that I slept and ate when he did (but not eating much).
Nursing burns something like 3000 calories a day when I was only taking in maybe half that.
