We`are considering buying a motorhome in New Zealand to travel around for 3 months then take the vehicle to Australia to continue our trip.

We have looked all over the web for a passenger and vehicle ferry/shipping service from NZ to Oz but can't find anything.

Does such a service exist?

Thanks for your time.

No passenger ferry from NZ to Australia

Talk to shipping company's - and make sure you get quotes from alot of them.. prices can vary.

I shipped a container over from NZ to Aussie on a cargo ship, it just depends on what company and port you are departing from too.

Be also wary of duty tax etc you will have to pay for the motorhome once it arrives in Australia and all the other hidden fees.

When I got a quote for my container - while in transit the company I was dealing with and Aussie customs decided to double there price ! So once arrived I had to pay alot more. It was wrong of them, but being a government (customs) dept - you can't challenge it.

the vehicle will also have to be spotless - no grass or dirt on it, or else more charges for customs to clean it for you.

No. Airlines only, though there are cargo ships of course. You will have to look at shipping companies. I have seen one NZ registered car in Australia recently but it was a particular Mercedes -Benz model which was at a specialist for restoration.

Some people might have bought in NZ and shipped to Australia but very few. It was generally the other way about.

are you aware of the distance from n.z. to east coast of oz?
there are no passenger ferries
there are airlines - 3 hour flight
cargo boats -can take a month or more to ship anything
cruise ships - you can do a 7 day cruise

also you are wanting to take your motorhome to a country with very strict quarantine rules and sniffer dogs. for example if you walk around n.z. countryside/farms then your boots have to be scrubbed & sprayed to kill all traces of dirt, seeds, manure, grass, weeds, etc.
can you imagine trying to do that to a used motorhome inside and out!
you can try to buy a motorhome in n.z. on a buyback basis with a company in n.z. then do the same in australia. try any campervan rental company in both countries.

This question is too cute.... thank you I have not giggled so much in ages....... did you actually check out the distance in an atlas???? Maybe you could drive over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, which joins the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean!!!!!
