Only a fruitcake would get upset when you say "Merry Christmas"--- how many people actually do get upset? Or do you just hear about people getting upset throught the grapevine a lot? Think about it...

This is what upsets people: another person decides to wish me a happy holidays, or a store decides they have a diverse clientele so they decide to just wish all people a happy holiday because they don't know what everyone celebrates, and there are people outside with picket signs boycotting the store because apparently they feel that the store should be obligated to wish me a Merry Christmas. Even though I don't celebrate Christmas, but have my own holiday the very same week.

Only fruitcake extremists are upset when hearing Merry Christmas...

and only fruitcake extremists are upset when someone says something else.

It's just a stressful time of year. You think of spending money, decorating, holiday get togethers, baking...... Oh! This is not fun. What do I buy Uncle Joe... that has everything. It's just awful. Christmas should be just about a nice dinner with family and friends and wish each other a Happy New Year. NO MONEY INVOLVED. You would see a lot happier people! (If a present is absolute, a card with a personal note of how much that person means to you!)

It's all the lying about Jesus being the reason for the season. Christmas is a stolen holiday. It was warped from a pagan solstice festival by Christians who later tortured and killed pagans that didn't convert.

You can see how people might find celebrating the birth of that kind of religion offensive. Particularly when the guy whose birth is being celebrated has never had his birth date ascertained, never will have it ascertained, and in all probability wasn't born in December in the first place.

Maybe because something's gone wrong in their life, maybe they've lost someone, perhaps it's stress, or it could be SAD (seasonal affective disorder), people can become depressed in the winter caused by the decline in natural sunlight. Or it may be that they don't practice Christmas. There are a lot of possibilities.

Maybe some of them do not celebrate Christmas and by assuming they do by saying ' Merry Christmas' you are implying that you know who they are when you don't.

Maybe they are not having a Merry Christmas. Maybe they are getting divorced, or someone they loved died, or they have just lost their job. Think before you speak, dear.

Most of whom do not believe in the Christian god. Get over yourselves, you are not the only people on the planet.
