What about Happy Solstice?
Personally I'm not. I could care less what you say for the holidays. BUT I'm not offended if you wish me a happy holiday other then what I celebrate. For example if someone says Merry Christmas to me I automatically shoot back Peaceful Yule! It's not to be difficult or rude. I am expressing my warmth of the season just like the person who said Merry Christmas. But I see a lot of people getting upset over changing things to "Happy Holidays". They don't care of they "offend people" by saying Merry Christmas. I'm not offended. But are you offended if I say something different back? In the end, does it really matter? We are all celebrating the same BASIC thing. Birth of the new year, the new sun/son, the coming of the warmth...does the wording really matter?

Naw, I never get upset.. people are saying it at that time of year out of a genuine kindness. I wouldn't dare upset them by being offended over such a small thing.

No I do not get offended. In truth we are all celebrating the same thing. I always say Merry Christmas. If I don't know the person and I'm just being friendly and I say Merry Christmas, of course not knowing what they believe in, If they get offended then they get offended(not being rude or anything). A person can only be offended if they want to be. But if I know them and I know what they believe and it is not the same thing as me then I wont tell them Merry Christmas, I will tell them something else like Happy Holidays.

What offends me the most is the fund raising the church groups do to fight these silly things at Christmas time. We have all the religious types asking for money to fight these things in court and they take the money and bye their fancy watches and cars and live off the foolish people that get offended with a greeting like Merry Christmas and happy holidays these are no more than Hi or wassup and should be returned out of politeness and not hate and vengeance.

No. Then again, I'm a Christian. I'm not offended by any of the holiday greetings, whether someone wishes me a happy Yule, solstice, winter festival, holiday, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or anything else. More people in my area are celebrating a humanist holiday called "HumanLight", so let's add that to the list, too. I think it would be silly to get offended just because somebody was kind enough to wish me a happy holiday season.

Me...I'm not personally offended by Merry Christmas, I was raised Catholic (even though I consider myself without religion now). However, I've known people who follow the Jewish faith and get offended when people say Merry Christmas to them since they don't believe that Christ was our savior and therefore shouldn't be celebrated, so I say Happy Holidays to strangers, just in case (I don't like to hurt people's feelings). As far as I'm concerned, if someone said Happy Winter Solstice...I'd take that as being polite.

It doesn't really bother me, I understand the basic message isn't so much pushing Christianity as much as it warm wishes for a happy holiday for whatever you believe. I know a lot of people get upset over saying "Happy Holidays" and thing the PC police are going too far, but all in all we shouldn't worry so much about the wording as much as the spirit of message, sort of speak.

I never get offended by any words meant in kindness regardless of the religious bases. If someone is saying I can see past the words and try to return the favour. I have had a Muslim say to me "Merry Christmas" I replied. "I hope you have a good Ede". He didn't seem offended, infact he smiled.

eh, I think it is a silly thing to worry about. I generally say "Happy Holidays," but for no particular reason.

Not all people who celebrate Christmas (and I do) give a hoot about anything other than time with my family and friends. It is just a day off and a reason to host a party to me.

Well I don't think the wording matters. But I say Happy Yule so clearly I am subverting the Christmas spirit. :P I don't get offended when people say Merry Christmas, I do get offended when they say Jesus loves you.
