Like some people pointed out, it stands for Road/Track. This was first used in 1967 when the Coronet R/T came out, and the name was attached to performance versions of the Challenger and Charger in subsequent years.
In some models, the 440 was standard on the R/T. Others had the 383 standard. And, in 1971, one could get a 340 Challenger R/T (although the 383 was standard). After 1971, the R/T name disappeared till the Viper came out, which I think was called the R/T-10.
There's the possibility they changed the meaning of the name for modern times, but I have never heard that at all. The SRT is a tangent off of the old R/T and I think the "RT" in that stands for Racing Technology.

It is the fastest of the Stratus'. However, stay away from Hondas and new Nissans. The Stratus R/T made it fast for an american car. My wife's 4dr V6 accord with myself in the passenger seat and our 2 sons in the back seat killed the Stratus R/T (young kid with a loud stereo).
and....It will break down pretty fast.

Depending on the age and mileage of your car, it could be many things. Has the check engine light illuminated while you were driving the car? If so, have the diagnostic trouble code read to begin the diagnosis. If no check engine light has been on (other than when you first turn the key on), you could have a vacuum leak somewhere, worn out spark plugs or spark plug wires, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pressure regulator, or even a clogged catalytic converter in the exhaust system. As for cost, that all depends on what the actual problem is.

R/T means Road & Track, but all the stratus r/t's i've seen look completely different from the non-r/t's i'm familiar with. the r/t's i've seen are all 2 door sport coupe with the usual "performance package" & trim unlike the non- r/t's i've seen which are 4 door sedans...but the new avengers are 4dr sedans where as the older ones were 2dr sport coupes so, who knows??

R/T does mean Road and Track. You'd think it'd be a performance package or something...but it's not. It's nothing but a trim package. Check some old copies of Car and Driver and you'll see.

It's old '70s terminology for a Mopar car that had factory-installed performance equipment installed on it.
Nowadays, it's little more than a sportier appearance.

It's a through back to the 70's as in 'Cuda, Challenger etc. It stands for Rapid Transit. That was put on the higher performance vehicles.
