i am leaving from SFO to the Miami airport, then to LGA. do i have to pick up my luggage again when i arrive at Miami airport or do they automatically help me transport it to new york

Your luggage will arrive with you in New York. The airlines will make the necessary arrangements to transport your luggage for you.

It all depends on the airlines. When I took US Airways last year from Jamaica we stopped in Fort Lauderdale and had to take our bags off then recheck them. It is not a hassle though you just take your luggage straight to the checking counter. This was the same with spirit airlines.

American Airlines automatically transport your luggage.

Nope. YOu're luggage will be taken care of once you check in at SFO and you can pick it up at your destination airport. LGA is noted for running behind on their schedules so be prepared.

The luggage will be transfered from one plane to the other. You won't need to do anything as long as the stop is part of your lay over.
