Here are the differences between these three species:

Eclectus
Size: Medium
Noise: Low-Loud
Talking: Great
Cuddliness: Medium
Playfulness: Medium

Sun Conure
Size: Small
Noise: Loud
Talking: Poor
Cuddliness: High
Playfulness: High

Green Cheek Conure
Size: Small
Noise: Low
Talking: Poor-Medium
Cuddliness: High
Playfulness: High

Green cheeks would be the cheapest, and Eclectus the most expensive.

It depends what you are looking for in a parrot and how much experience you've had with birds and what you think you can handle and how much time you can spend with it.

So research, research, research.

I don't know if this is your first parrot, but although I've seen all three be first birds before (Eclectus isn't reccomended as first bird though), Green Cheek Conure is probably a very good choice.

Hi! I have a 15 year old Jenday Conure named Bart who I've had since he was 3 weeks old. I hand-fed him. Bart is extremely playful and active- he likes toys with leather strips and braided rope strings. He loves to be touched- his favorite places to be petted are on the cheeks and underneath his wings. He enjoys snuggling up under my chin while I'm on the couch watchin' TV- he responds to loud noises and colors on the tube and also loves music- anything loud, with lots of percussion or bass is his favorite. He is very trusting and will allow me to clip his wings or toenails without another person and without a towel. ( This is unusual but not completely unheard of although my Senegal, Elvis, would bite my fingers off if I came at him with a clipper and no towel! ) Bart rarely bites and rarely breaks the skin if he does- I think I've had one bleeding bite in about 3-4 years. He's an easy keeper- he eats everything and anything- fruit, veggies, people food, and he's never been sick a day in his 15 years! He goes to the vet 1x year for a checkup and is always 100% healthy. Hopefully, he'll stay that way for another 20 years!

Now for the cons: Jendays and almost all other conures are incredibly LOUD LOUD birds obsessed with the sounds of their own voices. I try to ignore him when he screams, so that I'm not encouraging more, but sometimes I simply can't take it anymore. As a result, Elvis (my 14-year old Senegal, who's lived with Bart all his life) says, in my voice, through gritted teeth "Bart, SERIOUSLY, be QUIET!!!" It's hysterical- I've never heard a parrot say "seriously" before. Then, of course, I start laughing, and they think it's great and start screeching all over again!

One cannot overstate the volume of a conure's voice. It is absolutely shrill and ear-splitting. But as I said, MOST of the time, I can tune it out. Some species of conure that aren't as loud are Green-Cheeks and Maroon-Bellies. They're also a little smaller, so the cage might be less expensive.

All-in-all, I ADORE my conure. I hope this helps you decide. Visit your local bird store (go to a specialty shop if possible-they're sooooo much more knowledgeable then say, a Petsmart) and handle and ask about both species. Do your homework and be prepared, and you will have a friend for ( a long, long ) LIFE!!!

Conure's are by far much louder than Ekkies.
I have an ekkie, Kody, he'll be 3 in november. He was our first medium sized parrot. He's a clown, loves to play and Laugh at you all the time. I'm always asking him what he's laughing at. He's a real joy, cuddly, tho they say most male ekkie's aren't cuddly, but not with Kody. He'll climb right under the covers with you and snuggle in!

I also have an African Grey, Abby's my baby girl only 15months. I'm not sure where your located at but I know alot of ekkie breeders in the us that are very expierenced and great with their babies. I can give you a list in your area if you would like.
