You also need to study about the Hutterites and the Mennonites because they all go hand in hand. Also try joining a Hutterite colony or an Amish community. Unless you are born into the religion you cannot usually join. The Hutterites claim to be Christians too, but do not except outsiders into their religion or to join their colony's. Also some of these religions do not teach salvation through Jesus Christ, which is why so many families here in Montana are leaving the Hutterites colony's and going to the outside for work and living. They are refering to the Hutterite ways as a cult. The kids quit school at age 14 and become adults, and yes, they drink, smoke and party just like the rest of the world. Some of them also marry second and third cousins due to not allowing outsiders to join their colonys. They say they don't but when you talk to a married couple, eventually it comes out and they admit that the wifes uncle is related to the husbands father somehow. All of them have the same last names. Just read about them. They also have thier own language so the outside world cannot understand them (low German) They all also wear a uniform, similar to the Amish. We also have many Amish who have left their communities and have moved out here to get away from some of the teachings and have become Mennonites instead. I know this to be true because I fellowship with ex-Hutterites and Mennonites, some of who use to be Amish.

The Amish are not the only pacifist Christian group, if that's what you're classifying as "real" Christianity. Give credit where it's due. Add to this the Quakers, Molokans, Doukhoubors, Hutterites, Schwenkfelders, Moravians, the Bruderhof, some Anabaptists, many Mennonites, many Brethren churches, and other historic "peace churches". Why just highlight the Amish, when there are so many more pacifist Christian groups out there? Yes, we can all learn something from these churches and their commitment to peace and Christian love.

The Amish really are great people and I admire them greatly, as well, for the strength in their beliefs. Other Christian groups to also be pacifists are Quakers, Mennonites (and Brethren), several Baptist denominations (Cooperative Baptist, for example) and more.
There really are more of us - we just don't yell so we're a bit hard to notice.

I live near one of the larger Amish communities. I have no problems with them whatsoever. Traffic jams caused by buggies are a bit annoying. They keep to themselves, and expect everyone else to do the same.

It's easy to hide your sin when you live in a bubble. There is as much sin among the Amish as others. And don't be so quick to believe that everyone who 'says' they are a Christian, is one. I do not lump myself in the same group as all other Christians.

the genuine christians have been the Christian Gnostics which study the bibble thoroughly different than how Xtians do right this moment. they did no longer worship the hateful previous testomony "God" and various different did no longer believe that Jesus became unavoidably a divine being, or perhaps existed in a human style. the terrific place to discover Gnostic form philosophy is probable interior the lyrics of the rock team Black Sabbath, which contain their album Sabotage or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath... hehe.

Unclean. They smoke.
As to beliefs, there are a many religions that fit your description. Mine for example.
They do not follow Jesus example about "go make disciples."
I could go on here, but really bear no ill will toward the Amish. Just refuting your statement, as did someone else.

sorry, guilt isn't working. if all Christians were like the Amish, then we'd have a land known only as Christianida.
"oh, Christianida! our holy, native land....."

You are rigtht and they do...I am humbled by these hardworking, dedicated people who walk the talk. But lets be realistic...they have their problems too. Things are not always as they seem. We just don't hear about them. They keep to themselves.
What we do know is they suffer from certain diseases and syndromes specific to them. McKusick-Kaufman syndrome ,
Troyer syndrome, congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) and Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, to name a few. Uncle Al's response to your question is not so off the wall.
