Riegan posted a question asking if she gives off an atheist vibe. Pangel, Gazoo, Kallan, and Jillbean all responded that they are often seen as atheists. I knew Pangel, Kallan, and Gazoo aren't, but honestly I thought Jillbean was until I read her profile. Also when I first saw Kallan on here I thought she was until I read her profile.

This is leading me to wonder something. Is there a vibe out there that is being misinterpreted? What do all of us have in common that makes us give off this similar vibe?

non-christian? non-conformist? non-mainstream? or something else?

OK, I confess that I did think that Riegan, Pangel, Gazoo, and Kallan were all moderate atheists. Apparently, I was wrong. Like you, I now wonder why I jumped to this false conclusion......

Edit: After reading the posts above, I agree that the common element is a spirit of tolerance, which Riegen, Pangel, and Kallan have in abundance. Gazoo's still the unrepentant atheist I always thought he was -- cool.

I'm not so sure it's a vibe. It's the typical Christian mentality of "us vs. them." Their side becomes correct and moral, everyone else becomes wrong and immoral. It doesn't matter whether you're Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Pagan, Atheist, or whatever else... you're something different. It is very sad that Christianity is in this state. Notice how much bloodshed there has been because of this mentality in Christianity (and a few other religions, but not nearly all of them).

I also think Christians are in an awkward situation. They're taught that they are right and that there is no other way, but they're also taught to love. Usually the former is stressed far more, so they forget the latter. I suppose it's possible to reconcile these ideas, but for most people, it is very difficult.

LMAO . . . I think you may be on to something, there. Awhile back I asked a question about "whoring after foreign gods" that basically promoting people returning to their ancestral polytheistic folk religions, and STILL got branded an atheist!

I mean, c'mon . . . content aside, doesn't anybody else click on profiles to see who's asking the question? Like Kallan's and numerous others, mine doesn't really leave much doubt about my religious traditions. :-)

I'm going back to just typing like I'm good looking.

Wow, excellent question. Perhaps it's all of those.. I do feel a bond with atheists on here. I think several of us who are non-christians will agree on many points with the atheists.
I also think that we share a distaste for the "my way is the only way" believers because we accept all paths as valid.
Just my two cents.

And I thought Gazoo was an atheist.. glad to know I didn't mess that one up :)

My guess would be "non-Christian", because usually the answers I see from the posters you named are giving "Christianity isn't the only option" answers, but not usually indicating what their religion is. Also, because the answers are probably discussing the "inerrancy" of the Bible or Biblical teachings, it is lumped into an "Oh you must be Atheist then if you don't believe in the Biblical god" bucket.

Wait a second... I am an atheist. No doubt about it.

I just know that the Pagans are often seen as atheists by the Christians. Christians often have an us or them attitude. So when a Pagan criticizes them it is often similar to what we say, so they are immediately lumped in..

I don't really know what I give off........I don't think a lot of people actually know what 'yogini' means but that's OK, I didn't either until I became one.......I wonder what vibe I give off..........ahhhhhh!!!!!
At any rate, Yogini is the term for a female yoga devotee (and not just for the 'yoga arms' you achieve either) and I consider myself Buddhist mixed with a tinge of Hindu (mostly Buddhist).

well i think why some people give off a sertain vibe, is most of the really religious people, act really religious on every question they answer. and most atheist, or non-christians do not. so it makes them come off as 'different'.

You cannot give off vibes over the internet!!! That is why everyone seems to have the same vibe because it is the way the reader reads the text that makes the vibe...not the writer to the reader.

Maybe you're in the beginning stages...I was once a Baptist, and it took a few years of thinking and questioning before I was ready to consider myself an atheist.

Religions demand conformity. If you're non-conformist, you'll either change or leave.
