Perhaps you don't live in fear. But fear is precisely what many religious authorities try to instill in people. I have heard from several former Christians who spent their childhood being very afraid of the devil and scared that people they like (like Grampa) will go to hell for not being quite Christian enough. (This fear, and their victory over it, is why they are no longer Christians).
Now, I've heard many Christians say that their religion is all about love (I like them). This is obviously about another brand of Christianity where God is primarily someone we should be scared of, because if we don't behave we will burn in a lake of fire for all time.

Well I'm a believer and I definitely fear the Lord. I know if I don't accept him into my life then I will surely go to hell. But I know where I am going b/c I am saved.

So, basically you're just a servant who doesn't care at all about how their unfair, murderous God, treats them? Jeez... You sound like a lemming...
It's also the way most of 'em try to recruit non-believers, with the fear.. "If you don't follow our religion, you're going to burn in hell."
See, there are a few things we don't make sense of about that.
First all, they keep telling us their religion is all about love and peace, yet they try to recruit us with fear and damnation.
Secondly, they say their god is a loving being, who is perfect in every way, that his mercy is unlimited, etc..
Then why were so many people killed in the Old Testament, the Koran, the Torah?
Thirdly, we don't even *believe* in hell. Threatening us with it is basically saying, "If you don't believe in Santa, reindeer are going to come into your house and kill you," or, "If you don't believe in unicorns, one is going to trample you to death in your sleep." Not very scary now, is it?

Why do you let a book determine how you live? I let life guide me, I'm not afraid of the journey because I know that the strength that you seek from the bible already lies within each of us. You just have to be willing to let go and accept it. Free your mind and start to think critically and I bet you will start to see where we are coming from.

Hm, perhaps it's the sales pitch..
you know, the whole "if you don't believe in Jesus you're going to burn in a fiery torment for all of eternity" thing.. it's a fear-based religion, plain and simple.
Either you worship that god or you burn forever.

It hasn't been my experience that believers live in fear -- some of them do, but most of them don't. It also hasn't been my experience that I've accused them of such.

I don't think you live in fear. I think you expect fear to make the rest of think like you though.

That is Lemming Talk!
Really if you read the bible it says you should fear and love god. Not just love him.
