I'm living with my parents right now (I'm 18) and I have my 1 year old cat and my 4 month old puppy with me. Last night I put my puppy on a leash in the backyard to use the bathroom and my mom and dad were on the couches in front of our backdoor and windows which are all made of glass, so I figured she'd be ok and they could watch her. I went to my room and when I came back the dog was gone. Her leash and collar were in our backyard and my parents had fallen asleep. The thing is the collar was undone, somebody had to undo it. This happened before. We had a dog before who we'd put out for a bit, and we know for a fact our neighbor stole him because she came and knocked on our door at 2 in the morning and said, "don't worry i reported your dog stolen to the police." We didnt even know he was gone! She had kept asking us before if she could have our dog cuz shes moving to the country and its better for dogs to be in the country than in suburban neighborhoods.

I am so sure she took my dog because the dog that she took before his leash and collar were left in the same way as this time. She did move away, but her parents live in her old house and she visits them a lot. My mom, dad, and I are gonna go to their new house and watch for awhile to see if the dog is there, and if we see the dog call the police. Is this the right thing to do? We're so upset.

YES she does have a microchip, but that cant help if someone stole her.

And she was definitely stolen, because she has one of those leashes where you have to push down the sides to unhook it, and somebody had to have done it.

If someone stole her then yes the micro chip would still work if you have them look it up...depending on the chip. Is it a home again chip? Then they can. Tell them what is going on and I'm sure they will help you. Also, PLEASE call the police otherwise you don't know what will happen to the dog. It's better that begin now then later.

Ive never had a dog stolen. My dog, my great dane, gets off her leash alot,it actually unclips! I dont know how she does it but I need to get her microchipped soon.

call the police , this is a legal issue. At least if someone stole your dog, chances are she isn't hurt. Usual when a dog is stolen, they get scared and try to run away, if your dog gets away and a shelter finds her, as long as shes wearing a microchip she'll be fine. Sometimes people steal dogs because they want a reward, a way to get your dog back is to try putting up "lost dog reward" posters. Maby even add "no questions asked" the person returning the dog could be the one who stole her.
Good luck.

I would report your dog stolen. If it has happened before, it could have happened again. When you report her, say you had a dog that was stolen before. Also, there could have been a chance that she broke the collar and got loose. I would call any local animal shelters and the animal control. Tell them that you either lost your dog or someone as stolen her. Explain what happened and they probably will look into it.

I hope everything goes well, and you get your puppy back.

Call the police, Put up flyers, Tell everyone you know, search for her day and night and contact the ASPCA. If you every find her (Which I hope you will) have the vet insert a micro-chip inside of her and this way they will be able to know where she is if she every runs away again or gets stolen. I feel your pain, my puppy ran away and I haven't seen her in 7 years, she was my favorite dog ever! *tears* I really hope you find yours!!

Good Luck!

I wish you the best!

You have the right idea but I would put the police on alert now. The sooner they know about this, the sooner they can help you. Be sure you give them a recent picture of your dog. I hope you get him back soon. It's horrible that this keeps happening to you.

This has nothing to do with your question. I am Todd G's brother. He spoke of you often. Even in his final day.
It pains me to say he lost his fight with cancer today.

He did love you, but he could not tell you because of his sickness.
