What you do is send a THANK YOU note for the gift. In it you put that you regret they weren't able to make your special day, but you appreciate their gift and their thoughts and prayers.
Or something along those lines.

You don't return a gift because the giver is not coming. You only have to return the gift if you call off the wedding. Lots of people send gifts but don't go to the wedding.

Why would you return a gift even if it's money???? If the guest is not coming, so what?
No, no.. you do not return gifts unless the wedding is called off.
In my opinion, it would be an insult to that person instead of a nice thing to do.

If the wedding is still going ahead, then you do not have to return a gift because the giver isn't attending. Wedding gifts are usually only returned if the wedding is called off.

It's a gift, you don't need to return it. The only reason you would return a gift in this situation is if you decided they are not allowed to come. In this situation, you can retrn the gift and simply state that you are sorry that they can not attend the wedding and as a result you have returned the gift.

You don't return the gift unless you don't actually get married. The gift is for your marriage, which is taking place whether they attend or not. It was very nice of them to send you a gift even though they can't come, returning it would be an insult.

You say thank you for the gift and don't return it. The person wanted to provide you with a gift even though s/he could not come to the event. It would be extremely rude to return it.

Unless the wedding's been called off, you don't need to return the gift. Just thank them for their generosity and tell them you'll miss their company at the wedding.

Y are u returning the gift? When we got married (in1971) various invitees could not make it because of distance to travel or previous commitments. Most of them sent presents as good wishes for our future happiness and wouls have been hurt if we'd sent them back. I live in the UK - maybe the custom is different where u are. Accept the gift gladly, and send a letter of thanks, expressing your diappointment that they could not make the wedding. Hope this helps.

A lot of people send gifts, and don't attend the ceremony.
If that is the case, just send a thank you note for the gift, and inform them they will be missed.
If they ask for the money back, because they are unable to attend, That is pretty tacky.
If that is the case, send a cheque, with a note Here is your money, as per your request.

Return it only if the person has asked you to, but if they did it was a totally tacky request. In that case, I would keep it short and polite.
I'm sorry you won't be able to attend the wedding. We are looking forward to this special day, and we would have loved to have you in attendance. Enclosed is the check you sent and have asked us to return.
