My friend went through a similar situation 2 days ago. Here's the link. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ai7h8.g9HTwZTofHb7jstRXsy6IX?qid=20070627120433AAzb8Vb

Whwn my roommate pulled 2 knives on me, why wasn't I in right to defend myself? & the police didn't take me seriously & they put me in the mental hospital & told me that if I didn't go, then they were gonna put me in handcuffs & FORCE me to go. & they kept telling me what the other woman had the right to do. This wasn't a fair situation. This woman cahrged @ me with 2 knives, not 1. & the police didn't consider it attempted murder, & they laughed @ me.

Yes you had the right to defend yourself. What the police did was outrageous. They make snap judgments when they come on the scene and often don't listen to both sides.

I believe you can still go to the district attorney and file charges against the wacko who did this to you. They may not be able to do it depending upon how the police report was written but I think you should try.

"...they can't force you to go to a mental hospital without a court hearing,.."

We can in California. Ever heard the term 5150? Its the Health and saftey code that says we can commit a person to a 72 hour hold for observation due to the psych condition we observed.

Go back and read my answer to your link, it's the same in your situation, as far as the police go, I have trouble believing this, but lets face it, they can't force you to go to a mental hospital without a court hearing, they can't force you to go to jail for more then 48 hours without charging you, and if your roommate did do what you say she did, file charges on her, and go threw the system, it's the only way the system works for you!

You probably are insane, judging by your question. Most crazy people don't realize that they are crazy.
