Its hard to explain for me anyways. Its like if I hear a certain song(in Mass) and you really listen to the lyrics of what is being sung, and it just kind of tugs at your heart, then the Holy Spirit fills me with the love of God and I can feel His love and the waterworks start. I cant put just one emotion on it either, because I feel joy and love, the tears arent saddness it is more of a happy feeling.
God Bless and have a great day also!!

I don't know about people in church, but personally, I cry when praying or reading the Bible because I feel so unworthy of having such a loving Father who still shows me mercy despite all the terrible things I've done in life. I just feel really grateful, and at the same time really ashamed for not showing God the respect He deserves when I have sinned.

Some is mere emotionalism. The fact is, when a person, even a saved person, gets close to God, they become very much aware of their sinfulness/God's Holiness.
THAT is the effect. Not laughing, or any such a thing.
Consider the accounts of Isaiah, or of John, when they saw the Lord. They were immediately convicted...some call it slain in the spirit, but that's not real. Either way, they were floored.

when i go to church i cry all the time but they are tears of joy because i think about where i could of been if it had not been for him or i might have had a bad week and as soon as i get in there i thank him for letting me make it there because the stress of that week could have took me out but god blessed me to make it another day. i know when i started out in church the reason i use to cry is because i use to get convicted in my spirit because i wasn't living right and it i knew it and god knew it too and that's why the tears started to come but now it's all tears of joy. there's nothing wrong with leaking for the lord

It's an expression of emotion, and when we "feel" closer to God, we also "feel" in a greater degree toward ourselves, life and others.

muslim... same feeling... but to God only..
i think it is a sense of feeling powerless infront God.. that God is the powerfull... without Him you are nothing.... you realized how insignificant you are and still God can have mercy upon you...
God is the all mercifull
