I am turning 36 in Nov. 2007, would like to finish college (9 months to go) and get an Associates degree before I enlist - to get in as an officer. Any good ideas on military branches to join when seeking high rank and/ or becoming an officer in a relatively short time frame? I heard that you can only become an officer up to age 29. Is that true? If yes, what other military career route can one choose to hop the ladder in a short period of time, get good schooling or college and desired MOS? Thank you for helpfull answers in advance and God bless you.

I'm 31 and i got in as an E4 through the acast program, all i needed was a journeyman's license to make E4, never been to college a day in my life ;), so check your options, ask not only the recruiter you are working with but call others as well, some one always knows more. you can try the reserves or the national guard, going in that way is easier, after 6 months of service you can ask to transfer to full duty.

If you enlist, even with a Bachelor degree, you won't become an Officer. You may be an E4 after boot camp. To get a commission, you need to have a Bachelor degree, and be commissioned through ROTC , the Academy or through Officer Candidate School. You may wish to also explore becoming a warrant officer. Usually WO's are branched aviation. Most branches have a restriction on age unless you have prior military or federal service. Also depending on your length of separation, may not be counted. The MOS is strictly for enlisted personnel. Officers have the Officer Occupational Specialty. The only way to get promoted ahead of the grade is to be a combat arms officer, airborne, air assault, and ranger qualified. In addition, earning the Combat Infantry Badge will help. Promotions are based upon your evaluation reports, assignments, and awards. Thanks for wanting to serve.

Your only route is the Army, and you cannot become an officer. The Army is the only branch of the service that is allowing non-prior service enlistees to join after their 35th birthdays. In order to become an officer, you must earn a bachelors degree, apply for a commission, and get commissioned before your 35th birthday. Don't remember exactly what section, but it's in Title 10 of the United States Code. The only exception I know of to that rule is if you were to become a chaplain, and there aren't a whole lot of chaplain slots in the Army as compared to line officer slots. Sorry, but if you want to sign up you'll have to be a grunt.

First off, nothing in the military is fast. In other words you have got to put your time in. Why do have to be an officer? Do you like butter bars? Anyway you probly have a good chance in the AirForce. My uncle joined the AirForce and he was your age, but he was enlisted though. Or maybe one of the national gaurd clubs. It's kinda late in the game to want to serve isn't it? Better late than never I suppose.

you need a four year degree to be an Officer. an Assocaites will not cut it in Any Branch. as fopr your age.. the only branch taking people at your age is the Army, but whether or not you can be an Officer going in even with a 4 yr degree is iffy.

To be an officer, you also need a bachelors degree.

No shortcuts to the top, sorry. Your associates degree can buy E2, maybe E3. You'll have to work your way up from there, just like the rest of the enlisted.

I am an enlisted NCO's and as far as for the branch, do you have enough credits to go in as an officer? As far as the age, once you meet the age requirements to come in in your initial entry you are good to go, as far as going up the ladder, time in service and time time in grade are the factors for going up... unless there are shortage in your MOS ( aka job specialty ), then you may move up faster to about CPT then after that you pretty much freeze in your rank unless there once again a shortage ).

It depends on what service you go into, bit i think you have to have a bachelor's degree to be an officer.

You could ask an airforce recruiter, they are usually pretty honest. If you ask an army recruiter, take any answer with a grain of salt. They will often tell you anything to sweeten the deal.

I am your age and looked into this the other day. OCS is out at our age but you can enlist up to 40 something. (They do direct commissions for Dr. and lawyers and some other specialties, but by and large we are not officer material). So check out your local national guard group and they will probably try to sign you up.

Army. They are accepting enlistees up to about 42 now. None of the other services are.
To be accepted to OCS, you will need a 4 year degree, so you will have to enlist. Also, I don't think they are accepting officer candidates of your age.
