Hinduism predates Christianity by a ca lot, so it is very possible. Another factor that makes it a very strong possibility is the regions position as a trade route. many practices influenced what came to be Christianity. How far removed typical Christian practices are from ancient Judaic practices give a strong indication that much of Christianity came from sources other than Jesus who practiced Judaism. It is theorized by some that Hinduism played a large role in the formation of Christianity in a number of ways. Hinduism has a story of god sent down to earth in the form of a man to redeem humanity who happened to be born of a virgin mother, There are several variations of god coming in the form of man to redeem humanity in Hindusim. One of these, krishna happened to have December 25th as a birthday. hmmmmmmm

Ideas tend to be recycled to fit the current generation. So yes, it is a very real possibility, although there is no evidence that the gospel writers hand any contact with hinduism I could be wrong though)

It's more probably an adaptation of the ancient Jewish custom of going to the mikvah and immersing to purify oneself.
Here's a beautiful project done on the modern day mikvah (non-orthodox Jews pictured, as no Orthodox Jew would permit a picture of women in the mikvah, but the basic procedure is the same):

The Hebrew Temple and prior to that the tabernacle had a laver. It was supported by 12 oxen. Its purpose was to afford opportunity for the purification by immersion of the body of the priests (in everflowing living waters).

Many world Religions have stolen many things from "Vaideeki Madham(the so called Hinduism") I can give 100 examples."Baptism is known as UPANAYANAM"=Initiation (one of 16 Sanskarams) in "Hinduism".Hinduism is 10,000 year old (Mr.B.G.Tilak)-Christianity is less than 2000years old.-so you can come to your own conclusion
