Hello and your speaking of Rev.20:14, and in Hell those who refuse the conditions upon which eternal life is offered experience the second death you see the "EFFECTS" of Hell is forever NOT the Fire itself and yes unless your ready when He comes AND He returns while your still alive then you will die the first death like everyone. No Jesus Christ experienced the second death in the garden and on the Cross, we do so "ONLY" because we refuse the conditions God put on Life, there is free bible lessons www.amazingfacts.org that will explain more of those conditions God bless.

I don't really understand the book of Revelations, but I wonder if it's a death of "self" the things we want and desire and strive to attain the heart of Christ.

The 'first' death is 'Adamic' death due to inherited sin.
The "second death" is for those who knowingly & willfully reject God's righteous rule.
No... not all will have to experience the 'first' (Adamic) death.
Those who learn & embrace God's principles --as taught in the Bible itself-- & live their lives accordingly, remaining faithful up to & through Armageddon, will not have to die. These accept the ransom sacrifice of God's Son, & apply the principles he taught to the best of their ability, while constantly seeking God's help. These will have 'died' to living for themself rather than for God. They will be protected through Armageddon just as surely as faithful Noah & his family were protected through the Flood. These had to work toward their survival, though. They had to put faith in God's directions, & spend decades building the huge ark to his exact specifications. If they had skimped on any of God's directions, they would not have been protected, but it wouldn't have been God's fault. To this same extent, we need to find out *exactly* what God's directions to faithful mankind are for *our* day, so as to be under his protection through Armageddon. We protect ourselves by complete obedience. He provides the exact directions. It remains our responsibilities --individually-- to follow them closely...

well, I beleive everybody expereinces a first death but the second death, it's your choice to deal with it or not. I f you don't want a second death then you should ask Jesus to come into your heart by saying this prayer, right now!
Dear Jesus, please forgive me of my sins, please come into my heart and live with me forever. Thankyou Jesus and Amen.
now that you have said it go tell others about God and ask them to say this prayer with you and go tell others about God.

Scripture says yes:
1Co 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
1Co 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1Co 15:54 But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this cometh judgment;
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
The first death is physical, the second death in revelations is spiritual. The second death has no power over those who have the testimony of christ, and keep the commandments, namely those who follow christ:
1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1Jn 2:2 and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.
1Jn 2:3 And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jn 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
1Jn 2:5 but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily hath the love of God been perfected. Hereby we know that we are in him:
1Jn 2:6 he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.
1Th 4:13 But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.
1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first;
1Th 4:17 then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints, they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: over these the second death hath no power; but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
(If you have ever wondered what "the kingdom" christ referred everywhere to is......)
