if u want to see the red yahoo icon, download that image from somewhere in yahoo.com

open mail.yahoo.com in ur browser
click on the icon in the address bar and drag it to your desktop.
after the short cut is created there, right click on it , click properties>>Change Icon>>browse to the red Y you downloaded.

u got a shortcut to yahoo mail with red Y on ur desktop...

otherway is download the yahoo tooolbar and it will put red Y along with bunch of crap in the toolbar.

Go to the site. Save it as a Favorite. Close the site. Go to Windows Explorer. Find the saved shortcut in your Favorites folder. Move it to the Desktop. If it does not appear as a red "Y", you may have to adjust your icon settings in Display (Control Panel).

Drag the Favicon (the Red Y) from your browser's address bar to the desktop.

Or, drag it to your browser's Links Bar (better).
