shu can mean anything...
in mandarin we have four tones, if you say SHU, with a rising tone, or falling, or falling then rising, or with a high tone, this is four different words.
moreover, there are many homophones in mandarin.
the most common character with a SHU sound is, I think: 樹 (shu 4th tone) it means three. Another one is 書 (shu 1st tone) it means book.

"shu" can mean book or lose depending on the pin yin(tone)

He said 那個, usually pronounced "nèi ge" or "nǎ ge". It means "that one" but in the context you provided, it doesn't hold much meaning. It's like a part of your speech that you just blurt out because you were hesitant or thinking about what exactly you wanted to say in mid speech. For example: "I finished the task. It ain't tough but it wasn't... **you know, easy either." **That's the hesitant/uncertain part of the speech. It doesn't really have meaning but you just say it in a conversation anyway. And yeah I know they probably sound like they're making a racial remark there, lol.
