to be an exact account of events?

Do you believe that Jonah was truly swallowed by a whale?

Do you believe he did not die and was not digested?

Do you believe that he was "spit" out of the mouth of the whale onto the beach many days later fully intact with no harm done to him?

This is the account as told in the Bible. Do you believe this to be true?

Yes Miriam, it does say a big fish, so can anyone who believes this story about Jonah please tell us all what kind of fish could Jonah fit inside of. Seeing as fish are very much smaller than whales, this makes the story all the more impossible to believe.

No, the children's version is whale. The adult version is large fish.

The earth was a lava ball and has cooled thousands of degrees, right? So do you really believe the green house gases that cooled the earth will now warm it?

And the post volcanic era waters were the perfect environment for life to randomly begin, right? So do you also believe the current levels of pollution will kill the earth? Have you ever wondered why those that want to talk about future never want to include their theories talk about the conditions of the earth when life began to prove their point?

Do you really believe that a cell that randomly came to life changed its genetic structure so it could change light into food AND reproduce before it died? If a cell was to randomly come to life, it is absurd to think it would need to be born KNOWING how to eat and reproduce.

Can you explain why we have to be concern about the balance of nature today when it occurred naturally the first time? And what stopped the original EFFORT to balance from being natural today?

If you want to compare Christianity to other positions, surviving in a fish a few hours doesn't take much faith in comparison to the amount of faith required by the other beliefs.

When the Creator of the universe tells you the account is true, you won't need someone who read a book's testimony. He will communicate this and much more since your concerns are with the Author of the Bible, not His followers.

BTW: It takes more faith to believe in nothing and that there is no god. It doesn't say Jonah "came out" looking the same way he "went in."

Many years ago I saw a story in a Ripley's Believe It or Not book, about a man who was swallowed by a whale or great fish and lived. I'm looking online for confirmation of the account; nevertheless, I do believe it happened to Jonah like the Bible says.

I don't know if you would classify me as a fundamentalist or literalist, but I DO BELIEVE in the whale story.

I do believe my God has the power to allow a creature of the sea to do His will.

I also believe the whale was used, not just for his size, but to show the might of God's power. In fact a whale represents Him in the best way.

Like God, the whale is a mighty creature with a kindly, gentle manner.

Have a good day.

Yes, I believe it was a literal account. There are many events in the Bible that by today's standards would be considered miracles or supernatural events.

God was in control of the situation, he "prepared" the great fish to swallow Jonah.

"Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights." Jonah 1:17

Is anything beyond God's control?? Should we limit God's abilities??

No I don't because I believe it was a Fish as the bible says and not a whale. All the other things I agree with. I also believe that this was a picture of Jesus and salvation.

chipperjonesmistress has it backwards.

If God says He did it, you better believe it.

What is even more interesting is that if you ask a hundred fundamentalist/literists, that absolutely believe that the Biblical account is true, what the underlying message of the story is that God is trying to get across, 95 of them wouldn't have a clue.

yes I believe the bible it was not a whale but a large fish he was coughed up on the 3rd day. that is a common miss quote in the bible the 3rd day means the day after tomorrow as Jesus was in the grave not 3 days latter. he may have only been in the fish one day.
