It was very disturbing. I think I will be traumatised for a while. Anyways, I'm driving down this residential street, and there's this apartment complex. Out front, a fire truck is parked and there are two dogs fighting. The firemen are spraying the dogs with a high pressure hose, and they are still fighting. So, one of the dog's owners goes inside, grabs his glock and unloads three shots in one of the dogs. Obviously he died. I had to go, but I still feel kind of f--ed up about the whole deal. What do you think? Was it OK for the dude to just lay three bullets in the dog?

I would want to know why the dogs were fighting in the first place and why the authorities were present as well. We also don't know if it was his dog or it wasn't.
We don't know the whole story...there may or may not have been a good reason but don't jump to conclusions find out what happened..for real.

What a terrible and tragic story. It certainly sounds to me that the man was waiting and looking for an opportune moment to do what he wanted, which was get rid of the dog. How sad that there are people in this world with such malicious hate in their hearts. I frequently do what you said this woman did. When I meet my friends in our "dog walking group" at the park on Saturday mornings, I love dropping my lead and letting my dog rush ahead a few metres to greet my friends and their pooches! I also love when their dogs run up to me in a tail wagging frenzy. Saturday morning is their fun day, their play day, it always begins with that little ritual, so gorgeous... and I will never think of it quite the same way again. The thought of one of our dogs being shot for that is nothing short of horrific. I think bringing this to the attention of the media is a must as is getting a lawyer. This mans actions need to be highlighted and an example set. People cannot take the law into their own hands for no reason, policeman or not. Aside from the fact that what he did to the dog was inexcusable, his actions were in general extremely dangerous! Bullets can ricochet, there were two people on that street that could have been injured or killed had he missed the dog. What an idiot! I hope they strip him of his job and lock him up, because that is where he belongs. The fact that he let his true feelings about the dog be known, long before the incident is actually a blessing in disguise, (I hope they have witnesses to this) because it will make it easier I would imagine to prove it was a planned act, rather than him being able to say there were never any hard feeling prior to the incident and it was just self defence. @Divapom - that story of yours made me feel sick to my core!

Wow...I'm not sure I could have stood there and witnessed that either. Goodness.
I don't really know about the guy shooting the dog - unless the dog was his? Although I don't think either way it's right. I would also be concerned about someone with a glock coming out and shooting the dog like it was cool.
I don't think I would want to live in that area or be around this person.
You might want to consider at least letting animal control know - I would hate to think this guy has other dogs. He obviously has no regard for the dogs lives - may even use them for fighting.
Definitely need to get this guy and his gun away from each other and our streets.
Good Luck...and I'm really sorry about what you witnessed.

They should have called in pet control and had someone tranquilize the dogs. If they indeed had rabies and needed to be euthanized, they should have taken them to a proper place and had it done more humanely. If not only for the dog's sake but I can't imagine if there were a young child around to see it.
If it makes you feel any better, perhaps you should write a letter to your local paper's editor. It may give you some peace and you may find you weren't the only one who felt that way today. Also, perhaps the person who shot the dog will take note and think twice next time.

Well, this situation could have definitely been prevented if the owners of these dogs were more responsible and had more control over their dogs, but it sounds like they couldn't control them at all, and that is why the man shot his dog. It was not fair to the dog. His owner failed him, and that man should never own a dog. But I guess shooting it was the only way he could get his dog to stop. At least the dog didn't suffer though.

Wow, he just came out with a gun in front of his house and in front of firemen and no one like attacked the guy for having a gun? He definitely shouldn't have shot the dog, but the bigger question is - does he have a license for that gun? That's the scary part.....sounds like something that the police should be looking into. What town was this in?

NO WAY! they are living things and it is just like if he was fighting with someone and some guy came up and shot him! It amazes me how blind some people can be about animals. They are just like people and they are sweet things. Especially dogs...that was someones best friend and pet. He had no right. I wonder what happened to that guy but i (Not to be mean) Hope he got some type of punishment!I would be crying my eyes out!

if it was his own dog yes he had a right to do it. If the fighting could not be stop another way. It also depends on the laws of the state that this happen in. If stopped some one from getting bite try to get them apart. Rather one dead dog than two.

ok...u need to report that! that is not humane! the person could be fined a ton of money and there might be animal rights in the state that you live. Contact the police department and the ASPCA or the nearest human society. That man should not get away with what he did! quite honestly he should be shot!

If the dogs were fighting, they should of shot in the air and see if that makes them stop, if not only one bullet would have been enough, not three. There was no need to place three in one dog, he should have shot both because its clear they both have dog aggression. Let me guess he shot and killed someone elses dog rather than his own.....Bastard. I hope they checked to see if he had a permit and license for that gun.
