We are needing ideas of different places to get married. I am not a religious person so I think it is wrong for me to get married in a church (seeing as though I dont have their beliefs) but I dont want a registry office wedding either. I have thought about a hotel but they are usually not very good and its not a very good idea to do it outside as you cant guarantee that the weather is going to be nice. We are totally lost for ideas so can anyone help and think of different places or venues to get married that would be nice and special too.

try arboretums and parks in your area. a lot have special accommodations for weddings, such as indoor areas, too.

try museums, opera houses, historic mansions and castles, bed and breakfasts, and other places in your area.

look up on theknot.com for places. You can search by city and find many places aside from churches and hotels!

It really depends on your budget. And also your location. There are stately homes that make a lovely backdrop, and you can get marquees put up that can hold your reception. There are also a lot of places of public interest that have marriage licenses these days, such as football grounds and parks and places like that. Obviously this is not to everyone's taste, but it would definately be a talking point!

If I were you, I would edit the question and give your location, then people could give more specific advice. Congratulations on your wedding, and I hope you find somewhere very special to say your vows :).

Check out a local college (or the college you graduated from) - they often have a nice hall, lobby, or chapel you can use.

State and city government buildings (capital buildings, etc) are often very ornate and beautiful, and many allow weddings to be held in them.

Other ideas - Country club, botanical gardens (they often have indoor greenhouses), aviary, butterfly garden, zoo (the Pittsburgh zoo has an indoor aquarium where people can get married - other zoos probably do, too), the wing of a museum, a historical house/conservatory.

Congratulations, and I hope you find a beautiful venue!

My daughter got married in the Caribbean because she said she always wanted to get married "with sand between her toes".
A small family group went over and we rented a villa. After the ceremony the happy couple sat down to a meal with family in a restaurant (they walked to it through the streets with loads of well-wishing and cheers from the island inhabitants)
Then they went to another island for a few days honeymoon and we all flew back together to the UK where they had a reception for friends in an hotel here - had a steel band for music and lots of nibbles which had a Caribbean theme.
My daughter says she's the only person she knows who took her parents and in-laws on her honeymoon.

in your town or nearby, perhaps there are places to hold special events such as...

Dont worry so much if u want to do something outside, just do some research and see what the weather is expected to be for that time of year/. Have a backup place to meet inside if weather turned bad, but its usually pretty easy to plan it out..

I had some friends get married at this park and it was gorgeous at night ..they had some small white tents set up and those big candles, very pretty & not religious..

Rustic Lodge

Mansion
Museum

Anywhere with a beautiful scenery or backdrop. Remeber you can also do the ceremony and reception in one. I have been to many that had you sit at the table and the bridal asile went through the center of the tables. Worked very nicely and is a nice alternative to having everyone drive to another location.

I'm just wondering why you're opting out of the hotel option. In my experience they're fantastic venues because they're experiences in a variety of different events.

But you could also try a local museum, rec center, country club and some restuarants that are big enough can work too.

I agree with you about hotels, their decor can be hard to work around, but art galleries, restored theaters, loft spaces, or restaurants are good places to start. If you are in Southern California, I would recommend Marvimon, Seven Degrees or Abundant Sugar for indoor spaces.

do you live near any colleges? their happens to be 2 colleges (not to mention community colleges) within 45 minutes of where I live and they have really nice chapels that aren't connected with churches, they just look like one for the purpose of renting out to folks in your situation or their college students. If they don't have a specific chapel, they might have nice banquet rooms you could use. Thats the route a lot of folks in our area use! Hope it helps!

I don't know where you live but I am having a garden wedding. It is a large backyard with a gazabo and lots of flowers. We also priced tents (in case in rains) and they are VERY affordable. If a tent has to be used we will use white twinkle lights to give it a special ambiance. :)
