What's the difference between the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and the Dalai Lama, if any?

And have they met each other before?

They are both Buddhists. The Dalai Lama comes from a Tibetan viewpoint, whereas Thich Nhat Hanh is Vietnamese. Their pasts have influenced their beliefs and teachings. The Dalai Lama was forced to flee Tibet when China, in the horribly bloody and Orwellian-named 'peaceful liberation of Tibet' (see link below). Thich Nhat Hanh also fled Vietnam during the war. The atrocities visited on their native lands has served to make both of these men remarkably compassionate and peaceful. It is reflected in their lives and in their writings.

I don't know if they have met. But they certainly are allies in the world of Buddhist leaders.

I think they have met. Thich Nhat Hanh is Theravadan and His Holiness is a Gelugpa, Tibetan... NO difference in teachings, just different methods. Both are quite delightful to read and hear from.

They are both wonderful people with wonderful (and remarkably similar) viewpoints on this world, the suffering in this world, and the methods available to cease suffering.

They are also two of my favorite authors!

As for them meeting: I'm not sure of any documented cases, but I would imagine that they have. They're too similar not to have had deep conversations with each other.

Both of their teachings complement each other, essentially. I don't know if they've met before, but it doesn't seem to matter when you read their works because they have met in other ways, outside of the physical realm.
