As I cut myself all the time using razors, I've looked to alternatives as well.
The electric shavers are OK-- but the shaves doesn't last as long as a razor.
The epilator I've just gotten, and like the effects so far. Hurt the first time, but then I've used it after I get out of the shower or tub...when skin & hair are softer, and it doesn't hurt so much.

Hon, an epilator yanks the hair out, so there is NO SUCH THING as a painless epilator! Laser hair removal is darned expensive, takes many visits, and can cause scarring, not to mention it can be painful as well! I rely on good old razors, Daisy Twin Blades. Basic, simple, gets the job done!

I alternate between epilator and shaving. Epilators hurt the first few times and some people have problems with ingrown hairs. I find I get smoother consistent results with shaving but you have to do it more frequently.

All of them causes pain. Shaving is the only painless solution. Also, it's the only method of hair removing which will not cause the hair to grow back stronger.
