In Scripture, the writers use the word hate to describe what God feels towards certain things, but I think that’s because limited human language can’t really sum up what an infinite, omnipotent, omnipresent being truly feels. The best we as limited mortals can do is approximate as closely as we can understand these ideas.

One passage comes to mind, I am sure there were a couple others I’ll have to look up later when I have time.

In two translations they read:

Proverbs 6:16-19 (King James Version)

six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (New International Version)

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

I find it is always important to remember that in The Old Testament, the various Prophets and authors most often spoke in the negative; what NOT to do. Jesus spoke of what we were to DO. So we should probably look at this passage both in the negative sense of what we are doing that is wrong, and then turn it around into positives to see what we SHOULD be trying to do.

For example, “a proud look” can describe many negative things. There is the proud look of someone sneering at the misfortune of others. There is the look of a person judging another human being as being unworthy of being treated as an equal. There is also the way of seeing the world and everything in it as something to be owned rather than shared. In short any time a mere mortal looks down his nose at another, or seeing the world with an utter lack of humility.

So to me, turning it to the positive, what we SHOULD do, would be to do our best to look at the world and those in it as worthy of our unconditional love and respect.

Citing verses doesn't answer this question. Bible verses contradict each other.

"God hates the sin..."

How many people through the course of history have only found Jesus after "sinful" behavior? Millions of people have "sinned" until they realized how miserable it made them, and that inspired them to give Jesus a chance in their lives. "Sin" is often a vehicle to finding salvation. Mistakes are how people learn. What sense would it make for God to hate the sin?

"...not the sinner"

Well yeah, because if he hated the sinner, the Christian concept of God would effectively be the most self-contradictory notion ever.

God cannot hate. To say that he does is complete BS. A scare tactic. Even for God to hate the Devil would be to go against the cornerstone principle of Christianity---to love thy neighbor and enemy.

god never hates.

i am a hindu and hence u may not like my answer but god is considered as impartial.in more simpler terms, its newtons third law- TO EVERY ACTION THERE IS AN EQUAL AND OPPOSITE REACTION.

god is not revengeful. he ultimately balances the deeds we do in our lifetime. the people who live a life full of sin are latwer paid back in the same coin . its god's way of keeping things balanced.thegood and the evil go together-FOR NEITHER CAN CEASE TO EXIST WHILE THE OTHER LIVES.

God is love. And love is good therefore even love must hate evil. So yes I think he hates evil. He does not hate people, He loves everyone but He does hate the evil that they do. Now many would say "If God created everything, then it must have been He who created evil." I would disagree with this. If hot and cold are polar opposites as are light and dark then must be Holy and evil. Evil is not born it is made, it is what happens when God is replaced in ones life with sin. I pray that all of you would one day find the truth.

God does hate some things, yes. It says in Proverbs 6 that He hates
1)A proud look
2)A lying tongue
3)Hands that shed innocent blood
4)A heart that devises wicked plans
5)Feet that are swift in running to evil
6)A false witness who speaks lies
7)And one who sows discord among bretheren.
What God hates is actions, behaviors. Not people.

Hate is a human emotion applied to a higher power by people who want to manipulate others into believing what they believe. To say God hates hate is instantly contradictory and meaningless.

God does not hate.

Yes...the Bible shows us that He definitely hates certain human behaviors, and He will not tolerate them if people continue to do it with out any kind of shame. But the example Jesus showed us when he lived on earth was a mirror image of what his Heavenly Father is like, that's why he said that to look upon him is like seeing the Father also. So we can all take comfort in knowing that our Heavenly Father wants us to succeed, but He needs to see some effort on our part as well.

God does not hate people but the evil that is in them and by Him sending us His Son as a Lamb, a sacrifice for mankind, God has made a way back unto him for all to have divine fellowship just as Adam had in the beginning yet better. Yes, God hates evil and sin and those who love it shall not be with him in glory but will be turned away forever...

God does not hate, if you have read the bible it says that God loves everybody no matter what they have done or if they have asked him in to there geart. I am a christian and beleive that God loves EVERYBODY and there is nothing ANYBODY can do to stop God from loving you, God does get disapointed in people when the don't obey his comandments but he still loves them. I hope this helps you.
