If I had a religious belief that 1+1 = 3 do you think I should be able to force public schools to teach this as an alternative math? If not, why not?

1 + 1 may actually equal 3 in some instances. For example, allowing creationism plus intelligent design to be taught in science equals 3 bad things.

1. undermining science
2. going against separation of Church and State
3. teaching our youth to be stupid AND ignorant

However, you will have to get this idea into the classroom by means of courtroom cases, rather than actually going through the standard procedure.

The question is a non-sequitur but I'll bite anyway...

Do you think that if the loch nes monster's existence was a required part of your child's curriculum that you would object and ask that teachers be allowed to at least say that "some have other opinions?" Rather than being required to say we have absolutely no doubt that this is exactly the way it is?

Most HS bio textbooks still have the Miller/Urey experiment in them - an experiment that has been known to not apply for DECADES. (The initial conditions necessary for the Miller/Urey to work have long been known not to match those of Earth.) Some still have the piltdown man, some still have Neanderthal as evidence of a step in evolution. A teacher is not allowed to object to such silliness?! The theory of evolution is a fine working theory, but to have obvious non-sequiturs thrust down our kids throats without the ability to question is anti-science. I don't want ID made a requirement, I want the teacher and the students to be able to think and to question the evidence. As it currently stands, students must sit on their hands, memorize the required speal, and regurgitate it back for the test. AND We call this SCIENCE?!

Here in Indiana, some years back the _A_ students in a bio class, the ones who understood what they were being taught, asked the principal if they could hear some other opinions. All hell broke loose. Their teachers berated their students -- ON CAMERA -- wondering where they had failed them! So much for the freedom to question!

BTW: I keep hearing that the Theory of Evolution is the key to biological science. AND from there that it is necessary for the US's continued technological superiority. I'm OK with the claim that the Theory of Evolution is currently a key to working in Biology BUT could someone give evidence of all the technological breakthroughs that are directly attributable to the theory. For quantum mechanics one could give pages of resulting products. For evolutionary theory?

It is possible to prove 1=2 with normal Math, so why not?

If a = b then it is true to say a² = ab

Adding a² to both sides of the equations gives:

a² + a² = a² + ab and after we combine like terms we have

2a² = a² + ab

If we then subtract 2ab from both sides of the equation we get

2a² - 2ab = a² + ab – 2ab, again, combine like terms to get

2a² - 2ab = a² - ab

2a² - 2ab = a² - ab can also be written as

2(a² - ab) = 1(a² - ab).

Dividing throughout by (a² - ab) gives us the following:

2(a² - ab) = 1(a² - ab)
------------- ... ---------------
(a² - ab)........ (a² - ab)

We can cancel out the (a² - ab) which leaves us with

2 = 1. Go figure……

if you could get supporters, sure! you could have your own little classroom of alternative math. atleast that's less complicated than binary....

0+1=1
1+1= 10

i like some of the ways people try to get their point across. but their hypothetical speaking never matches when comparing to God! having faith in God is different then purposely teaching something that is wrong and can NEVER be calculated. but God in the end is GOING to make himself known with his mysteries. we can choose to believe or choose not to believe and in the end well find out.

Only if you could come up with the tons of scientific support for such a belief like intelligent design advocates have come up with in support for their position.

Nope, you should confine it to your private ****** up math schools and your special ****** up math sacred sites.
