I would say so because for one, the word gay means happy and carefree
NOT
homosexual. Even then, like many words that are thrown around, they loose their meaning and/or feeling of what they stand for.

There are so many meanings for the word "Gay" that it's difficult to be offended by it but I can see how some people may be offended. Since I'm straight I can't really speak for gay men & lesbians. Gay used to mean happy. Now it can refer to someone who is homosexual. I guess the best thing to do is be respectful of the company you keep and ask a gay friend (if you have one) to see how they feel about the word.

I tend to say something is gay if it is stupid or lame. I guess it is inconsiderate of homosexual people but the word gay means happy so it shouldn't matter. I try not to use it except around close friends who aren't offended but everyone is so politically correct now you can't say anything anymore. So to answer your question directly, it's not unethical but probably inconsiderate in today's world.

Yes it is because gay does not equal stupid.
Back in the day, the word gay meant bright and happy and used to be applied to things like pink gingham dresses or yellow picnic baskets and sunny days in the park.

It's not unethical, it's just ignorant and bigoted.
I strongly encourage people to use less hate-filled language.
Of course something harmful is meant by replacing "dumb" or "stupid" with the word gay. Defamation, disparagement, ridicule, the list is endless . . . .

Well, I think it is very unethical if you use it in a negative context. Whe people see something 'stupid' they might say " that is sooo gay". I think that is the wrong place to use such a word. However, it can be used to describe someone's exual preference.

When one of my grandchildren-who are in their teens, uses the word gay-they usually just mean homosexual, but then I'm not around all of the time. I'll have to ask them. I try to keep up with the latest meanings of words-but it isnt easy.

No, it's not unethical. In fact, it is the proper word to use. You hear about someone being gay, "Gay Pride" marches and so on.
