Techniacally they are the same thing......both spirits. A ghost is the fragment of a human soul that's left behind with unresolved issues also called a poltergeist. A spirit in the genreral sense however, is any disembodied supernatural being able to exist without the need of a physical body. Spirits can possess (take control of bodies) but they are different from apparitions. An apparation is the projection of a body into another place, usually far away and requires a human body. Once the human body is shifted, the projection can not re-enter the body and the person dies. Hence, becoming a ghost. When a spirit takes control of a body, the body of the possessed becomes subject to every whim and desire the spirit can muster. The spirit can be exorcised, but that usually takes intense strength on the part of the exorcist. Ghosts, however, though they are spirits lack this ability but they can inflict physical harm on whosoever they please.

No difference. Ghost comes from a germanic root and spirit comes from Latin. Two terms for the same thing. In modern usage, we give "ghost" more of a haunting/scary meaning, but it was originally the same. That's why the Holy Spirit can also be called the Holy Ghost.

A ghost refers to the spirit of a deceased human, but there are other spirits around as well. God himself is a spirit, for example, but he is not a ghost.

A ghost is an old, crabby guy wearing a mask who wants to make trouble. He is usually stopped by a band of meddling kids and their stupid dog.

A spirit is an alcoholic drink.

Both words can also refer to imaginary beings that aren't very well defined.
