Meow mix is fine. My grandma has been feeding her cats Meow Mix for 14 years.
DO NOT buy Iams .. they test on cats and dogs.
* I ALWAYS use Purina indoor formula, if your cats arent indoor only use a different Purina (if you want).
What you should do about your cat not liking the other food is gradually introduce him to it. Start by putting more of the old food in with a small amount of new food. Gradually take away the old food and add more new. Do this over a 2 week period.
If your cat doesnt change, and you can tell he just doesnt like it .. keep giving him the old food, the one he likes.
To answer your questions about naming the kittens.. personally, i think you should wait until you get them, check out their personalities .. then it will come to you. Thats what i did for all my cats. For example: I have an orange and white 3 week old kitten, he has dark orange spots everywhere .. he looks exactly like a peanut, so i named him Peanut. I named the other one Toffee because he looks like peanuts and toffee. The girl is Dora/Dorey because she's always exploring the house.
BUT if you want to name them now heres a few suggestions. For and orange cat:
Simba
Nala
Peanut .. "orange" names, haha
Grey/Black/White stripped cat names:
Chester, Zippy, Flash
Last question: Kittens start eating kitten food at age 4-5 weeks old. And the kittens that you are getting will at least be 8 weeks old. So they will be ready for good kitten food. I suggest buying KITTEN food for them .. but if you have an older cat, YES buy the food that says for kittens and cats .. that means ANY AGE cats can eat it.

good luck hun

I use Purina for all my fosters. I don't know how it compares price wise, but it's very good for the cats (and they have versions for cats, kittens, indoor, elderly, ect). What you want to do is mix the food. At first use a lot of thier current food to a little of the new food and slowly reverse the proportions. As for the type of food, keep this in mind: Kitten food is much higher in nutrients that "growing" cats need. If your older cat is not too heavy it's okay for him/her to eat if. The rule of thumb that I have heard and follow is that kittens should have kitten food up til they are about 9 months old (this is when they are no longer considered a kitten). From 9-12 months I usually mix kitten and adult food. Good luck and enjoy your new babies!

I always bought Purina for my cats, they never liked Meow Mix either. You can switch food, just mix it in and switch it over about a week's time. Generally, when I had kittens in the house, I would buy them kitten food until they were about a year old, that's what is recommended anyways. Their tummies are sensitive just like a human baby's tummy, but you don't have to go an entire year. There are foods that are for nursing moms and kittens, that's probably what you've seen, they have added nutrients.
As far as names go, you don't have to have a name before you get the cats, just wait it out and get to know their personalities before you name them.
Is your one year old cat fixed? If not, watch the younger kittens around him, and let them all slowly get used to each other. Generally it takes a couple weeks for a cat to accept other pets, and he may resort to spraying in your home, or being rough with the kittens. Watch them, and don't trust them alone too soon.

The rule-of-thumb about switching brands is to not do it all at once. Gradually reduce the amount of Brand A and increase Brand B.
I use, upon my vet's recommendation Iams. (Vet is a friend of mine, so I'm confident is wasn't just a ploy of the cat food manufacturer's buying my vet's loyalty). I'm pretty sure this is more expensive than Purina's basic Chow, but I'm not sure how much more.
Make sure the primary ingredients are meat.
Take a look at the recent pet-food recalls. Just about any manufacturer had problems - it simply depended on how the specific product was made. Not all types of food from one Manufacturer were recalled. Try to find one that wasn't recalled, in order to assure yourself of the basic quality of the manufacturing process.
I formerly fed my cats Purina Cat Chow. They went nuts about Iams, but didn't turn their noses up at the Chow again (when I couldn't find the Iams once).
Pick a name that seems to match the personality or apperance. My fluffy black is named Raven, which I wouldn't have chosen had I known she was going to be so fluffy, but the color is still obviously the intent. My other cat's name came from his personality - I had read a story with a similarly tempered cat (small cat, big attitude), and gave him the same name.

1. I don't know the cat food you mentioned, since I live in another country. However, it is not a problem if you switch back to their old food. If they don't have irritations like diarrhea or anything, there is no harm from switching food.
2. For the new kittens, I would suggest names with a theme, like Ceasar and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, Ginger and Fred, you get the idea.
3. Foods that are for all age cats are usually not as good as specialised foods, because kittens and older cats have different needs. It is not a problem if kittens eat adult food, if they like it and if their teeth are up to it. I buy my kitten kitten food, but she is jealous of the older cat and she keeps eating his food. I don't mind, I just know that the kitten food has more nutrients for growth, so I make sure she eats some of that too. However, adult cats eating kitteen food may get too fat, or worse, may have urinary problems especially if they are neutered males. If your cat is a neutered male, it is advisable to give him food for neutered males or anything that has DL-methionine in it and specific low levels of Phosphorus and Magnesium, for urinary health, or he may get crystals and block and then trust me you will be paying much more to vets and perhaps it may cost your cat's life. Kitten foods don't have these specifications.

have you tried different flavors of meow mix? one of my cats will only eat chicken flavored food... it could be a problem with preference and not the brand... as for names, I'm not very good at them... for my cats i opened the index of an atlas, closed my eyes and pointed. now, my neighbors laugh at me when they hear me calling Cairo and London in the backyard! As for the cat food, "for cats and kittens" means just that. mature cats can get enough nutrients that they need and it is mild enough for kittens. It works great in a house with multi-age cats. Although, if you have a senior cat, they need the senior diet. Many are at risk for kidney disease and such, so they should not be fed the "cats and kittens" cat food.

You can buy Chicken Soup for the kitten lovers soul (cat food) for the same price as Purina...and it's MUCH better food! Whatever food that you choose look for one that lists meat as the first 3 ingredients. To many grains are not good for cats.
