How can U be a Democrat and support Abortion! How can anything be OK? We turned many a cheek to those terrorists. Let's see The U S S Cole, more than one embassy, and the first attack on the twin towers. Have you forgotten all of that?

Apples and oranges.

A slap on the cheek in Jesus' day was considered an insult of great proportions. To turn the cheek was a metaphorical slap back, causing humiliation to the slapper.

Jesus was also speaking to individuals, not nations. God has always called for governments so that evil can remain checked. Nations may defend themselves with armed force.

"For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." (Romans 13:3-4)

Notice that the rulers "bear the sword." Swords had but one purpose back then. To kill people. Either through execution of criminals, or to kill the enemy in battle.

I want to make it very clear first and foremost that I do not support the War in Iraq.

As Christians, we're commanded to turn the other cheek in our daily lives. However, we don't live in a Christian world, and sometimes war is inevitable to maintain the safety of our country and our place in the secular, global community.

But the war in Iraq was not necessary to do either. I do not support war just to promote the personal agendas of individuals.

If by turn the other cheek you mean sit by idly while a terroristic madman tortures and kills his own countrymen, threatens his neighboring countries (forget about Kuwait?), and attempts through every covert channel to acquire chemical and nuclear weapons to probably use against Israel and eventually us, then I'm pretty safe in assuming you have no idea what that passage means.

There are 3 types of wars/ retailiation. Just, Unjust and a combination of the 2. The Christian Bible teaches in Romans that we are to pray for our leaders and support what they decide. It also says that the govt. has the God given authority to carry out any punishments that are Just.

Yes I believe in Jesus, and I do turn the other cheek.

I do not support George Bush in any way, shape or form--he would probably be an okay guy--if he stayed away from politics.

Christians don't follow Jesus' command. As an atheist, I bought the moral implications of it and tried to follow it, but life would have been simpler without it. Still, I think Christians should try to follow Jesus' words, or strip it from the bible as they did so many other things that they didn't want to follow.
