o yah, i do have a glucose meter but i only use it if i feels low and those strips are so expensive! we have to pay the full $50 for a pack because our insurance won't cover it unless i am a diagnosed diabetic. so i have to use them sparingly.

If you are still blacking out and experiencing spells like the one you describe, then you, most definitely are NOT eating the "proper amount of carbs and protein" at least not for YOU. Your diet needs to be individualized to your needs. IT may take some experimenting to see what you need to do. Some good rules of thumb:

Always pair carbs with protein when you eat them.

Spread your eating out over the day instead of just 3 meals, try 6 smaller meals/snacks.

Try Glucerna bars for snacks. They help to even out blood sugar in between meals and help avoid the peak highs that occur after ingesting other snacks that are inevitably followed by the swings to the low side.

To help prevent rapid drops in blood sugar I would recommend that you carry a glucometer at all times; my son uses an Accuchek Aviva, and I use a OneTouch Ultra Smart. Doing this will allow you to check your glucose levels before and after activities. As well, I would also recommend that you carry Glucagon or other fast carb product, so that you can stop the drop before it becomes lower. If you experience a low, sit down and remain inactive while you test your blood sugar, eat\drink an appropriate amount of carbs to counteract the problem, and check your sugar levels ten (10) minutes after doing so. If needed, repeat the process until you are back in your target range.
Please remember that hormonal imbalances brought on by puberty can skew your blood sugar levels too; if you test more frequently, you may find a pattern to your lows cycle, and be able to make any changes in insulin\food\exercise levels as required. You should also make an appointment with your endocrinologist\diabetic educator(s) to help you keep the radical shifts in blood sugar levels to a minimum; you may request a haemoglobin A1C test to determine what your long-term patterns are doing.
I wish you the Best of Luck in getting your levels back on track, and I urge you to give your parent(s)\guardian(s) a chance to read this.
Lots of Luck to you ligget_04!

Later Daze! =)

Well, this could have been my story 15 years ago.

7 years ago I read a book called "the new glucose revolution." I haven't had a problem with my blood sugar/insulin since making changes in my diet.

For me (and maybe you) it wasn't about how much carb I ate, it was about what kind of carb I ate. For instance, I changed my regular whole wheat bread for stone-ground whole wheat bread. There were other changes, but they were all of this nature.
Now I follow the glycemic index and try to stay low-middle GI with my food.

It works for me.
