yes it is b/c we are only over ther for oil and it's not getting any cheaper i remember when we pulled out of dessert storm i filled up at 79 cents a gallon but maybe that was just b/c of bill clinton

The war was won several years ago, if you believe the "Mission Accomplished" banner that was waving as the Bush political machine used the military as a political prop.
Essentially, the troops are now cops busting down doors to root out neighborhood punks. Yes, I simpilfied it, but the troops are not battling an army...that was done and we won.
It is a tragic civil war that - in my view - will not be solved by U.S. policy or will. Our troops should not be police officers, they did their job and should have been out of the nation months and months ago.
Our men and women are now pawns in a crass political power struggle within Iraq that can only be resolved - perhaps with more bloodshed - by those leaders and citizens. The valiant women and men of the U.S. military cannot solve an internal issue; they can only die in vain for it.
Iraq must solve its own political crisis today; our politicians may be able to guide, but the troops must get out of the way and let the factions in Iraq police themselves.

Why not move our troops in Iraq to Kurdish area, or Kuwaiti border,or somewhere out of harm's way then let the Sunni's and Shitties fight it out, and when they get tired and a lot of the worst fighters are killed off, we can move on. But we'll be there ready to pounce if anything super major happens. Let them have their religious war, and we might be surprised to see them calm down. I do NOT believe the hypothesis that "if we leave, they'll come here." They won't come here; that's a scare tactic that I don't connect together. Terrorists could come here in different ways, not just if we leave Iraq.

Cause it'll save the lives of those young soldiers. Have you read the news? Men aged18-25 are dying. They just came out from high school or colleges and haven't experience the world, and yet they died in war. Such a pity!
And it's not like the US troops are making situation in Iraq better either. If you see the interviews on Iraqis, they mentioned that lives with Saddam Hussein was terrible, but the US occupancy made it worse!!! The presence of the US troops create tensions that the Iraqis don't need. Let them fend for themselves. Who says that The US has to play a hand to make everything better in this world? It's not their damn business inthe first place to "fix" other countries' problems.
To top it all....it costs US taxpayers billions of unnecessary dollars.

No, despite what would happen to Iraq if we left (chaos, tens of thousands more dead, overtaken by Al-Quada) we don't EVER want to leave because of the incredibly valuable real estate we now have for air and troop bases.
Look at a map. If you were a general and knew the entire Middle East was a trouble spot that you may be required to attack at any moment.....
WHERE WOULD YOU PUT YOUR BASES?
That's right, Iraq. That's why we invaded in the first place, you logically-challenged people.

Yes.
Military operations that take up significant amounts of national resources, and are ostensibly aimed at vague goals like "defeating terrorism" (whatever the h*ll that means), and thus can't be resolved in any reasonable time frame, are a waste of money and lives in general, and degrade the country's ability to defend itself against real threats, should any happen to arise.
The US is, and has been, in the mideast for only one reason, for decades: Control of the oil reserves, and through them, control of the world oil market.
I think the US should abandon this strategy. Competition for oil will only lead inevitably to one conflict after another, with the situation degrading over time, generally, as reserves are depleted.
A post oil economy will have to be developed sooner or later. The US would be better off for getting a start on that task now.

I think that its not a good idea.
We will probably have troops over there for a long time (at least a few bases).
The U.S. tactic is to stay on the offense.
If we pull all of our troops out of Iraq, then our enemies will most likely try to come over here.
So the ultimate choice is:
Try to contain the problem with the consequence being losing men that have volunteered to fight for their country
OR
Leave the problem to grow and possibly attempt to attack our soil again, consequence being losing the lives of innocent civilians in our own country
It was probly a bad idea for them to be over there in the first place, but theyre there now, and i dont think we can pull out now

Right now is not the perfect time to pull troops in iraq because the casualties will increase it is as worse as telling the enemy that your coming in 2 hours. If we pull out of iraq you let al qaida or Sadiq al sadr saying they win. Thats not good politically and morale for our troops and for me I been in the navy 7 yrs. I dont believe in playing chicken I believe that we rush to in to go to iraq with adequate plans but i am not against the war and We should let the troops finish the job. Were partially have responsibility to help the iraqi govt. because were all partially to blame by the turmoil that is going on over there.

No, all of those above me are looking at it as a war with a few thousand casualties. Our generation needs to stop looking at the numbers and start looking at the big picture. Founding it took the US 11 years to make our constitution. We also didn't have a huge religious and ethnic conflict. I think we should stay in another 2-3.
Boredinlab- i hate to brake this to you, but nearly every war in history has used 18-25 year old men to fight. This isnt a draft, they signed up to fight.
If you disagree email me your points...and historical evidence that proves a strong democracy's formation in 5 years.

No even a good idea to be though about, if you were to pull troops out the government would collapse and we would have another problem country in the area
