Here in the US we have HUGE problems with binge drinking and early alcohol abuse. I think this could be prevented by having younger people become more used to treating beer and wine as food, rather than a drug. I am seventeen, and my family has educated me about alcohol by allowing me to have a small amount with dinner- WITH dinner being the key. They also allowed me- this wasn't funny at the time- to get a bit drunk at Christmas, teaching me pretty quickly that that is not a feeling I enjoy at all. I believe that a higher drinking age actually increases the alcohol abuse rate, if not the total percentage of teens who are drinking.

You should try and think first of the reason behind why people would want to raise the drinking age to 21 and what your opponent will say. Like underage drinking, health issues etc and argue against these so that you can shoot down your opponet. It's simple think like them, what they'll say and have stuff ready to say that will make their points seem stupid and of no value. That's how I tackle debates and public speaking comps.

With this topic your opponents will most likey lie on the whole underage thing which is a rising problem here (I'll assume your from England/Ireland/Scotland or Wales). You could say that well rasing the drinking age is not a solution as it doesn't stop underage people from obtaining drink and instead of rasing the drinking age maybe they should spend more time considering possible ways to tackle underage drinking and health issues related to drinking instead of relying on taking the easy way out by simply making it seem like their taking a tough stance on drinking whlst not tackeling the underluying problem.

You may want to look at countries with a 21 age limit, America is the most obvious and see if this has made much difference. Look at articles or sites which look at people who think that the age limit should be lower there and pick up from their points.

Good luck, go in full of confidence, speak like you really really believe what your saying and basically try and make the other side out to be wrong in everything they say even if you have to roll your eyes or look sarcastic when they speak lol

In America it IS 21. So say something like you don't want to match the number of teenage drunk driving deaths that there are in America.

Well-l am from England too-and l think it should be raised to 21, how many young kids are falling about drunk there? you know that is true- more rape -more accidents- more people in debt, and of course- more young alcoholics.I think its 21 in America- 18 in Spain

Well there really isn't a good reason to oppose such a thing. Studies show the frontal lobe doesn't completely develop until you are 21...

I don't want 18 year olds in a club where I'm drinking. They are annoying and stupid enough without alcohol.

What age do you enter the military? Over here it is eighteen without parental consent.
I have always felt if a person is old enough to bleed for his or her country they should be old enough to drink.

i agree that the drinking age should be raised to 21. teenagers are too distracted as it is and alcohol just makes them more irresponsible.

alcohol teaches people to make good decisions. it teaches you to know your limit and take responsibility for your actions, and it is better you learn that early on.
